Today's Woot.com deal is a Xoom 32GB refurbed tablet for $400. Just in time for the 3.2 update that supposedly enables the micro SD port.

Still think it's probably better to wait for Android 4 this fall it you aren't really desperate for a tablet. happy But a nice deal if you really want one now.

Any word on all these Android manufacturers deciding on a data connector standard? Every Android device having its own type of connector is really silly. It prevents accessory makers to start full-on android support. I know people who buy Apple products just because of the "so many" accessories that are available for them.

I'd say it is very important especially for tablets - to be able to buy a plug-in keyboard, dock station, tablet-to-TV connector, etc.

The two most popular Honeycomb tablets don't have micro USB. Not on the Transformer or Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Phones yes, tablets no. Ravy can they not get enough power for batteries over micro usb, or are they just being greedy.

They have USB though.  Adapters are cheap.  :)

I guess they need to start putting in USB 3 connectors then, since USB3 allows for almost 2ce as much power output (500 mA in USB2 vs 900 mA in USB 3).

From the phones, is it only the Nexus One that has extra connectors at the bottom? I know it has the micro USB and then 3 metal dots that are sued to connect to the car and desk dock stations. I guess they have those since USB 2 doesn't allow for enough power to go the phone through the micro USB connector.
If that's the case and installing USB 3 is too expensive at least all other manufacturers can agree to start putting in these 3 "dots" so all andorid phones can get more power and use the same accessories.

They are not going to put USB3 adapters on tablets anytime soon.

- They cost more
- They use more power (hence you will get less battery perf when using them)
- The transfer speeds of 2.x already eclipse what the I/O on most tablets can handle

Well the proprietary USB adapters are not what I'd call cheap. And I really don't care for having to use an adapter. It's not a big negative, I'd still buy a tablet without a USB port. But really prefer that they have them.

If the $400 refurbed Xoom wasn't good enough, now you can get a new Xoom for $400. Or an Acer Iconia A500 for only $300.

Staples has a $100 off coupon good on select tablets (excludes HP TouchPad, Kindle, Nook, NookColor).
http://www.androidcentral.com/staples-giving-100-select-tablets-what-will-you-be-buying

Staples doesn't carry the Transformer, which would be pretty nice to get for $300, but some people have had luck taking the coupon to Office Depot that does sell the Transformer and getting a price match (YMMV).

I'm still waiting for the next version of Android and tablet generation though.

I thought USB 3 is actually more power efficient than USB2.
Here is an excerpt form an article about it:

1) Link level power management, which means either the host computer or the device can initiate a power savings state when idle
2) The ability for links to enter progressively lower power management states when the link partners are idle
3) Continuous device polling is eliminated
4) Broadcast packet transmission through hubs is eliminated
5) Device and individual function level suspend capabilities allow devices to remove power from all, or portions of their circuitry not in use

The spec certainly allows for lower power outputs, however most of that is in the standby mode, when the connection is active, USB 3.0 has another pair of connectors, which demand more power overall and putting even the same power output spread over more copper wires will result in higher resistance and require more power input to get the same output.

There is always a lot of double talk in spec which want to seem the best of all worlds, so they choose the language and features that best make their technology shine.

- lower power output *requirements* doesn't mean that the device on the other end will support working on less power, or demanding less.
- lower power output doesn't always mean lower power input to get that output if efficiencies are not gained.
