Just got this e-mail:

------------

Dear Urk_VN,

We are separating unlimited DVDs by mail and unlimited streaming into two separate plans to better reflect the costs of each. Now our members have a choice: a streaming only plan, a DVD only plan, or both.

Your current $17.99 a month membership for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs (including Blu-ray access) will be split into 2 distinct plans:

Plan 1: Unlimited Streaming (no DVDs) for $7.99 a month
Plan 2: Unlimited DVDs (including Blu-ray), 2 out at-a-time (no streaming)
for $14.99 a month

Your price for getting both of these plans will be $22.98 a month ($7.99 + $14.99). You don't need to do anything to continue your memberships for both unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs.

These prices will start for charges on or after September 1, 2011.

You can easily change or cancel your unlimited streaming plan, unlimited DVD plan, or both, by going to the Plan Change page in Your Account.

We realize you have many choices for home entertainment, and we thank you for your business. As always, if you have questions, please feel free to call us at 1-888-357-1516.

------------

Just got that in the mail. So basically they're splitting their DVD/streaming services, or jacking up the prices if you keep both. There's been news about the movie/tv studios raising rates for showing their stuff on Netflix, so I can see why they're raising the rates. But the way Netflix is trying to frame it ("it's a bonus for you with more price choice selections!") kind of ticks me off, as well as a lot of other people.

I wonder what's going to happen now. Will people just grunt and bear it, or will they start donning pirate hats to find their movie fixes? I'm currently on their 2 DVD a month plan, but if they don't vastly improve the streaming selection, I may go to a cheaper option, or cancel it altogether.

Yeah, it's a lot of whining, but look at the Netflix page on Facebook lol. I'm not the only one griping about this.

And no, going outside and having a life isn't an option for me tongue

Everyone will gripe, this is their way to do away with the DVDS. They have made it clear they wantto stream only and this is the first step
