Whenever people bring the series up I tell them that it has been too long, I just don't care anymore. I have always wondered how that ennui would hold up once the book was actually released and now I know - I just don't care anymore.

I will read it, but I would be just as happy to not.

I still haven't read King's Dark Tower series past book four and I probably never will.

With Dark Tower once I get past book 3 I lost interest but since I was so involved in it I had to finish it.

I just want a thread for people who have read it to tell me if it's worth it to read it....

meaning... no spoilers... but...

Yes, read it! It's great like books 1-3!

or

No, don't read it. It's like book 4 and GRRM just doesn't care about the series anymore.

Mine arrived this morning, will be starting to read it in the next hour. I don't hold out much hope for plot progression but it will be nice to see what Jon, Bran and Dany were up to all this time.

I just started the entire series after the HBO show came out. I really feel sorry for you guys that waited 6 years to go from 4 to 5, I have no idea how you could keep interest that long. But I just finished book 4 last week and am hyped to get 5 started soon.

When I buy the hardcovers I feel no compunction towards acquiring the ebook.

Touché , sir. The only problem I have with that is that the books are no all in the same place on the nook. For some reason this really bugs me and I end up purchasing the ebook eventually.

unlike most people, I actually liked book 4 a lot, just as much as 1-3, and even so, after all this time im like Yoss, its just been too long and I could either take it or leave it. I will probably wind up reading it, but with most of the series' I have read I am usually anxious waiting to get off work, or for the book store to open so I can go get it, and with this I might pick it up in the next month or 2 if I have time to stop by a book store. The main thing that I am worried about though is that from what I have seen, George Martin has this tendency to bring up old characters or plots throughout the book, people that he doesnt mention too much, and then just expects you to remember them without giving it a second thought, at least thats how it was for me. There were more than a few times I was scratching my head thinking to myself "I know that name, but from where?". And I am afraid that I have just forgotten so much that I will have to go back and re-read books 1-4 just to get some of the plots or remember some of the characters. I am not a huge fan of re-reading, even books that I absolutely loved, I just cant sit there and read them again. I am the same way with movies, I dont own 1 single DVD and have never downloaded a movie that I have seen before, cause I just cant willingly sit there and watch something I have already seen when there is other stuff on T.V. but the wierd thing is I will watch re-runs or old movies I have seen on cable lol, if there isnt anything on that I havnt seen before that I want to watch of course

He's been pushed to the list of "maybe I'll finish it someday". He's got two more books planned. I refuse to wait 12 more years (if he lives that long) to see the finish of the story. If I remember by the time the last book is out, I may or may not read it.

Robert Jordan killed his series for me the same way. I came in at book 2 or 3. Devoured them, found out he had 9349837249873 more planned and decided to stop reading until they were all finished. Now, I'm not so sure I want to read the series. Maybe someday, when I'm really bored...

I have had the book two full days and have only read the prologue and the first chapter(Tyrion). I am having a problem getting past the fact that there are two more books left and he hasn't even started the next one yet. Plus, he is busy with the tv show, book signings and all of the other crap he does. I don't see it ever getting finished. I love the series but at this rate I will be retired before he finishes. Hard to get excited about the new book.

I am about 100 pages in, it is dull.

I'm not trying to complain, it just feels like I am in for hundreds of pages worth of what amounts to exposition.
