first my mx1000 stopped charging after 6 months of ownership for which they replaced with a mx revolution. That mouse stopped charging as well after having it for 6 months as well. Now my mx518 wont register left clicks all the time.

Logitech is nice enough to send replacements, but the mice break so easily it seems. Bad luck or bad QC?

I have never had a Logitech mouse fail on me, including my MX518. I haven't gotten any that require batteries though.

For some reason the wireless receiver on all my Logitech mice have failed after 1 to 2 years. Kinda annoying, the receiver has no mechanical parts, don't know why that piece keeps going to crap. After an MX700 and two G7 wireless receivers died I gave up buying wireless mice.

I've had three G5 and now three G500 mice. All the G5 mice have been perfect, think one failed, but that might have been me. One of the G500 mice did have a quality issue where the left button stopped working, that wasn't me this time. Logitech replaced it though.

So with the wired mouses, it's been real good, with the wireless ones it's not been so good.

I consider wireless mice stupid and will never use them. I've been using an MX518 for awhile now and love it!

I use a Logitech Optical Trackman and had the right buttons micro-switch go after about two years of heavy use which I don't consider bad.

had an mx518 for yeeeeeeeears & years & years. the plastic logo on the top of it was actually worn off before the mouse itself started showing wear via missed/stuck clicks. i contacted their support to see if there's an easy way to take the thing apart for cleaning the clicker mechanism but no dice. the tech wanted me to send pics of the worn out logo though lol. i was hoping they'd send me a new one but nope sad

replaced that one with another wired logitech which sucked. replaced that one within 2 months with a G500 which has been a pretty solid performer now for about a year or so, but i can already tell it's not 100%.

my first guess is that cheaper parts/processes are in use now today as compared to even 5-6 years ago with these mice. i don't expect to have any mouse for more than a couple years now. before, i would have no problem spending $100 or more for a mouse since i knew it would last me at least 5 years, but probably more.

Would you say the G500 is a decent replacement for the MX518? My middle button is starting to become less responsive after 3 years of very heavy use and I'm wondering if I should consider an upgrade or just get another MX518 if they are still available.

The middle button is a big reason I upgraded from a G5 to a G500. It's so much better, being flat makes it push down easier and the tilt action seems more reliable. And being able to unlock the wheel and scroll really fast is nice too.

You can set it to scroll normal where it has resistance, or you can unlock it via pressing the microgear button on the mouse and it makes the scroll wheel have no resistance which makes it very fluid and makes it quick and easy to scroll through spreadsheets, long web pages, etc.

Yes i'd say the G500 is a nice replacement to the 518. but being the cheap bastard that i am, i'd probably just buy another 518 if i had to do it again tongue

They are sending me a G400...basically an MX518 without the design. I should have offered to pay the difference to upgrade to a G500.
