The Firelands grind has begun. Dailies, tokens, reputation. Already there are a great many quick and easy gear upgrades that are available just in the first few days. How's the grind feeling to you? Is punting turtles fun? Are you tired of the ganking? Is there a cooperative effort between Horde and Alliance on your server? How far along are you with your goals? Are you enjoying the storyline?

The Topic of the Week is a contest run by WoW Vault! The best reply will receive VIP Insider for 2 weeks! Potential winning posts are judged according to length, interpretation of the subject and writing style.

Disclaimer: Winners with too many ToS violations on their account may not be eligible to receive the reward.

Reviews have been poor, basically relaying that it's more of the same from the B team, so I didn't resubscribe. So I don't know.

Boring. I cancelled again. I don't think it is necessarily the game itself though, I think I am just over the MMO genre in general.

Intersting. So far I'm actually enjoying the dailies, questline and such. There are some fun aspects to the whole kit n kaboodle, like the Gang War achievement, that was a hoot getting that done with all your protectors. The first night there was a lot of cooperation on my server at least, between horde and ally to get through the quests, the ganking was minimal. That's changed at this point of course. The quest line has been intersting. And come on, turtle punting? Doesn't get any better, unless they're gnomes.

Daily grinding is never fun. I'll be glad when I'm done with it so that I can go back to only logging in for raids again.

Dailies are fun the 1st time, maybe the 2nd. Then they are just a boring mechanic to make content take longer. Not only that, but there are 2 factions you need to grind dailies for, so once you are done with one, you get to do it all again for the other.

Turtle punting is cute once, then it is just another buggy, clunky vehicle mechanic that is far more annoying than fun, especially if you are a pet class. Have fun resummoning your pet ever 30 seconds. Still waiting for some other remotely interesting game to come along, so I can put WoW to bed for the last time.

Perhaps I'm jaded or burnt, but I hate this new grind.

We did multiple rep grinds in WOTLK. We did an extensive ultra grind at the end of TBD (QD). We did rep grinds in cata already. On top of that, at the same time, is the emblem redo whereby you can now grind all your not favorite heroics or trollics even more.

So it doesn't really matter whether it's interesting lore-wise, it doesn't matter if you get a few easy epics out of it early that're barely slim upgrades to 359 pieces, it's still a hellish grind.

This grind is also an extra kick in the nads for anyone with alts, which I'd guess is the majority of people, since doing this grind once will suck enough - doing it multiple times for several alts...no....NOOOOO.

I've got a few of my characters thru the thrall elemental snoozer quest line to get the cloak. I've got a few of my characters thru 20 tokens to get the "freebie" item from the repair vendor inside the FL portal. Beyond that...I can't bring myself to start or continue (started on one) the grind.

I also have zero desire to do heroics of any kind. I have 10 85's. I've already done a lot of heroics and trollics. Doing the same instances, even with gear to almost WOTLK-ify faceroll them, is still misery. It's content that's been beaten to utter death, and cata heroics are generally long and time sinky.

Also, I'm on an underpopulated RP server. I don't PvP much these days, and no longer enjoy WoW PvP (I really, really hate resilience and everything else they've done to PvP for years now). So, having flagged people running around griefing in the middle of 100+ questors during the first few days of this patch was really kind of annoying.

The reprieve here is that you get good rep doing trash runs, if you can stay awake. I find trash runs to be boring beyond measure even with the BOE lotto potential. Dunno if you can grind to exhalted via trash runs but if you can, it could be faster than getting to friendly via the token nonsense.

You'd get rep via raiding too, and I'm usually a raider, but it seems like half of my guild has had it lately. We have 4 raid nights, that feature a mix of players and 4 seperate teams, and we haven't had 10 people on to raid since the patch hit. People just aren't logging on or signing up for raids.

So, IMO, this patch if a failure, and Bliz is failing to deliver content and gameplay that people want and deserve. We pay premium prices for game and xpacs and pay a monthly sub for year after year...and bliz is just sucking up cash while inflicting a designer that nobody likes on us who's not delivering the gameplay people want.

I think on my retarded server (and I mean that literally, not figuratively or insultingly, because my server is one of the worst for progress and population) there are more people sharing stupidity in trade chat than actually playing the game. I honestly don't know how people can manage to log on to the game and be so stupid at the same time. But, I think it speaks volumes when trade is so hopping with idiots that people would rather sit in cities spamming @the gay bar links than to be actually playing the game. It shows that people are so bored they should log off or not log on.

You go through all of that to end it by not being able to figure out why OTHER people still log into the game. You ARE one of THOSE people!! laugh

I generally like that "grind". You can feel that Fargo is in charge of quests now. The quests are varied enough not to always get exactly the same stuff every day, and it's also fairly quickly done, without having to run the other side of Azeroth (think Crusader dailies in WotLK). The associated achievements are fun too.

My biggest critic/grief would be that it's once again quests that pit players of the same faction/side against each other. Instead of working together for a common goal, people fight for spawns. Granted, on elite mobs, kills are shared now even among alliance/horde. But it's still not enough. Way to go though, this is the best "daily quest hub" I've seen yet.

Why do you call it the "B Team?" Nothing about WoW has changed fundamentally... so if it is truly a B team its more of just a hand me down situation. Still the same grind, same tired recycled content type, same poor-insert different named hero here and copy paste lore. O and the pvp quality has just been phenomenal thru its entire life! sick

Nah.

As much as I get into the whole, you're a bad person and I can prove it type thing. It generally doesn't really make me feel better or put me in a good mood. I just get out of control sometimes when dealing with idiots and my temper/attention whoreness gets the better of me.

I think this time, instead of telling people that they are douchebags for ruining another person's day by griefing them, I will just fade into the background.

Oops, did I say that out loud?

I also enjoy being pitted against the other side. But also isn't this expansion more about Horde vs Alliance then the previous? To that end doesn't it make sense that we are in constant battle in shared places with them now? I am fine with this.

I don't necessarily have any gripes about this being a tiny PVP-FFA zone for the most part. IQD was that way before and people eventually got over it. I remember most of the whining was from people who got banned exploiting things like standing on the ship masts shooting people where they couldn't fight back.

I like it when the game world and associated mechanics for the area aren't driving the PvP, it just turns out to be a happy accident that PvP happens to be fun there. As it was in the Isle of Q. And also when it's ripe for good old griefing.

Yea I liked the Isle of Q. Not only the constant conflict, but when you were done you could go out and hunt Horde or Alliance, grief, etc.

I also enjoy being pitted against the other side. But also isn't this expansion more about Horde vs Alliance then the previous? To that end doesn't it make sense that we are in constant battle in shared places with them now? I am fine with this.

I like it when the game world and associated mechanics for the area aren't driving the PvP, it just turns out to be a happy accident that PvP happens to be fun there. As it was in the Isle of Q. And also when it's ripe for good old griefing. [/quote]

Considering what a disappointment Tol Barad turned out to be, it's nice to have someplace with a little world pvp going on. Frankly it's the only thing that makes the dailies the least bit tolerable since they're already getting routine.
