Subject: Amazon Cloud Drive
I've been giving Amazon Cloud Drive a try. It's a cloud based service for storing music and other files. You start out with 5GB, but if you buy an MP3 album from Amazon, then you'll get a free upgrade to 20GB for one year. I bought a $2 album, so it was a cheap upgrade.

I needed to install the Amazon MP3 Uploader to begin uploading music. 20GB wouldn't be enough, so I had to pick through the music and decide what I wanted up there for now. Then install the Amazon MP3 app on my Android phone and tablet. I really like the clean interface of the Amazon app over the Google Music. And Amazon MP3 didn't brutalize the album art covers like Google did.

However things got a bit goofy when it came time for me to try downloading that one MP3 album I bought on Amazon, 99 Must-Have Mozart Masterpieces...

1. I got into the Cloud Drive website. Select the album folder, all the songs it in and see the "Download" button immediately grayed out. I hover and see the message that multiple item downloads are not allowed and to go to the Cloud Player.

2. So I go to the Cloud Player website. I find the album and select Download. Now it tells me download is not supported here, use the Amazon MP3 Downloader.

3. I wasn't paying close attention and thought it said Amazon MP3 Uploader, so ran that app and didn't see anything about downloading, then realized there are infact two seperate apps for uploading and downloading. Why couldn't this be included in one app?

4. I download and install the Amazon MP3 Downloader. But there appears to be nothing in the app that lets me download.

5. So I go back to the Cloud Player and choose Download again, then get a pop-up asking if I want to open with the Amazon MP3 Downloader, I say yes. Now I'm finally downloading that album.

Okay, they could have been made much simpler. I think they really don't want me downloading music I bought from them.

But really like the Amazon Cloud Drive. I only wish they could do something like Drop Box and make it like a folder on my computer that is automatically synchronized to the Cloud.

Does amazon put DRM on their music/movies so it can only be played with their player/viewer?

I bought a few things on Itunes a few years ago and really regretted it. Ended up having to break the drm just to put the music on anything other than the IPod. I must admit though, I have had that I-pod for a while now and it's pretty bullet proof.
