As of yesterday Patch 4.2 is live. One of the questlines involves freeing Thrall from the elements that he is surrounded by after the Hyjal Summit is interupted by a Mysterious Stranger. The main focus of the quest seems to be to present Thrall and all the sides of his complex personality. Did you complete the questline? Did you feel it fit the lore well? How compelling was the conflict? Was it a well done set of quests? What would you have changed?

One of the few things I thoroughly enjoyed from this patch, early in. They fleshed him out, they gave him a personality, they gave him a name other than a slave name. We always hear about how great he is, but we never see the person behind it all.

Seeing his inner thoughts, his goals, his desires, his anger. I REALLY liked seeing all of that. It made him real and not just a figure in lore that is awesome sauce. Instead of there goes the legend, we get to see the real Go'el.

I really enjoyed how they presented Thrall's character. That has been the best storytelling I've seen them do since release. Part of the reason I haven't enjoyed Cataclysm was because of the removal of all the old world content. They removed all of their awesome, unique storylines. Each zone, each area, each quest giver had a story I was interested in. It's good to see the storytelling side of Blizzard hasn't been completely squashed.

I actually got goosebumps at the fire plane when Thrall yelled about Garrosh. THAT was what I was expecting his actual reaction to be. In the book, he shed a few tears over Cairne's grave but moved on as if he didn't care anyway. His reaction was weak. But in game....now that's more like it. That feels more real. I can empathize with that so I care a little more about the game and it's story and characters.

I thought the story aspect of the quest was awesome, however the killing the elementals got a bit repetitive in each phase. Overall I enjoyed it and I wouldn't mind similiar types of quests/events in the future.

Plus the free epic is always nice happy

I'm finding Bliz' most recent cutscenes to be lacking. Too long, drawn out, and lacking in punch. Most of the NPC dialogues are far too long and winded. I wanted to choke the aggra NPC within moments.

All this makes the horde looks just as emo as the alliance is usually portrayed, so I guess that's good. wink

I'm not a huge lore person but I usually follow along to see what's going on but I couldn't tell you anything about Thrall because these latest dialogues and movies are sleepers.

The thrall elemental quest is an interesting idea but lacks any fun at all, it's just torturously long and repetitive. Do it for the 365 epic that's 6 pts mroe amazing than your 359....go team.

The whole firelands sequence of quests and eternal daily grind I guess is interesting but just too long. Grinding out all the cata reps, and giuld rep, wasn't enough, we needed this - the grand mack daddy of rep grinds to make all the rest look trivial.

I think I'm a bit jaded. I thought Bliz took cheap shots in WOTLK in redoing emblems repeatedly and having us grind the same instances beyond utter death. I find excessive rep grinding on multiple toons to be pure suck. Then in cata they present us with, and shove us down the EXACT SAME PATH. Same emblem grinds and reset/repeat. Same faction grinds. Nothing fresh, new, or anything. How many years of the same crap has it been?

When WoW released, two of the major concepts they went with were "fun" and "removal of tedium" (vs previous MMOS, many of which featured a lot of grind and/or other tedium). IMO, rep grinds and revamping emblem grinds are about as unfun and tedious as it gets. A little bit of rep grind and grinding out emblems once isn't so bad. But when they turn around 5 months later and say, OK, we're resetting/redoing/bumping emblems and now you can grind heroics into dust AGAIN...it's a kick in the nuts...thank you sir, may I have another.

MMORPG gameplay is what it is, you like it, or you don't, but Bliz showed when WoW came out that the focus could be fun without tedium and over time, they've turned on those concepts.

This entire patch is a kick in the nuts to anybody that plays multiple toons (like I have 10) because repeating any of this stuff is absolutely brutal, free epics or not.

Basically this patch is bliz' way of saying, thanks for your cash, suckers, we're never going to put out new content at a decent rate, enjoy grinding your butts off on what little we give you for the next bunch of months.

Seriously. Bliz is huge, WoW is huge, they're rolling in cash, they have huge teams of professionals, yet they can't create a new instance, or new BG, or new anything in a reasonable amount of time. It should not take a team of pros more than a month to put together a new instance. It's BS. WoW is a bohemoth of a cash cow and bliz assigns GC and the stooges to it with seemingly a skeleton crew of developers. W.T.F.

I think when Thrall "left" the horde to persue his calling he got a bad rap from the horde players as being a p#$$..he clearly is not and its nice to see him in the limelight..he is a great character. More interesting than Wynn (EDIT: or Garrosh) IMO.
