is this for real ?


4.2 Patch notes posted:
•The 4-piece Balance druid tier 11 PvE set bonus, Astral Alignment, now provides a total of 15% critical strike chance with 3 charges, decreasing by 5% per charge, instead of 99% decreasing by 33% per charge. This change was made because the set bonus proved so valuable it was not possible to upgrade out of the set into tier 12. To compensate, changes have been made to Starfire and Wrath (listed at the top of the druid class section).




does this imply blizzard was balancing my class PURELY on the fact that every balance druid had/has their 4 piece set to be worth anything? I don't have my 4 piece set (i never got my shoulders from chogall and since i'm an engineer i'm using my goggles(that and my guild never got nef because someone always misses a raid and we are pugging 2-3 people it seems lately))

i mean really, they are buffing druids wrath and starfire damage by 23%....just because of this change... so essentially they are telling me that i am only capable of doing 75% of my max damage because of this? do they balance everyone off having their 4 piece set bonus? that is just STUPID game design. anyone who knows anything about balancing a game would know that you balance the classes based off skills and make set bonuses... well.. BONUSES and not par for the coarse, everyone will have it eventually so let's balance around it.

It means they happened to design a bonus that was too strong. If you had the option to get it and didn't, you made an error.

Pretty simple if you ask me, tier 11 should not be better than tier 12...

So they nerfed t11, and made up for that nerf in other areas.

Well yeah, but the issue is.. essentially all balance druids were worthless UNLESS they had the t11 bonus. if you either got rid of it for higher gear, or hadnt gotten the gear yet to have the bonus, you were performing way below someone that happened to have it. that is bad balance. if they had just decided that the set bonus was too strong then perhaps that would be one thing.. but to make up for the difference in the set bonus, they increased dmg by over 20% on the main nukes? thats kinda huge.

Well, if it makes balance druids that don't have t11 "not worthless", how is it bad balance?

An entire spec being 'worthless' or not should not depend on which gear set you have, the gear set should only enhance your ability, not BE the ability.

The bad balance was in the initial implementation. They didn't think that balance druids with t11 were too strong. They thought that the bonus on the t11 was too strong. If they redistributed things so that the t11 set wearing druids were not affected, then it means that everyone who didn't have it was doing way less damage than bliz felt the "appropriate" level should be, but nothing was done about that until after they realized that the t11 bonus is what was so strong.

Right.

Pre patch: T11 boomkin damage is fine.

Post patch: no one is going to give up the T11 set bonus for T12.

Result: Nerf the T11 bonus, but add that nerf back in the damage for other spells. Damage pre patch = Damage post patch

T12 is now a viable choice for those wearing T11, and damage (NOW) is unchanged.
