I have DirectX 11 currently installed...(via /dxdiag) and decal has always worked on this computer, busted it out of a 6 month hibernation and now it pops that up when I try and log in with decal on.

directx is not backwards compatible.. you need to ensure that dx9 is installed (look in the sticky for a link to one of the latest)

Gotcha, thanks a bunch. Not sure when I got dx 11, computer has been in storage since I last used it and decal worked just fine. Damn directx 11 installing-garage-nymphs.

having trouble installing v9...everytime I run the installer it says that there is already a newer version installed and that no further installation is necessary. How do I override this?

You need to follow the directions in the sticky. The directions for Win7 apply to Vista. Install ALL of the files in the first post, then go down 5 posts and follow the directions there.
Make sure you uninstall everything and start over. Don't try to "move" files.

A windows security update could have changed something with the way the programs file folder is protected.
The "C:/program files" folder is write protected by default. That's why it is recommended to install everything outside of that file.

okay, well i pretty much removed everything with a red x on it.
Started up ac and decal and it doesn't crash me upon log-in but nothing shows up (as if decal is not even on)
Only red x I have is version 1 plugin surrogate which I have read is supposed to be red X'd

Nevermind, fixed it...the link in the sticky takes you to 2.9.6.0.
I googled 2.9.6.4 and decal now works.
