Nintendo's new console looks pretty neat. A couple complaints but it at least looks like they've been listening while still trying to innovate with new technology.

I don't like that it doesn't have blu-ray, but the new controller is really neat and they're finally gonna put in a real online solution and HD graphics. We might finally get equal or better quality games on a nintendo system for the first time since RE4 on GC.

The features I read about were either "nifty-but-why?" or "'bout-time." HD graphics... overdue. Screen on the controller which will display the game content if your TV is off. Neat but... I'll just have my TV on, thanks.

It seems like it would be good for multiplayer stuff, like calling plays and such that you don't want everyone to see.

It's such a waste to be wasted in the first place
I wanna taste the taste of being face to face with common grace
To meditate on the warmest dream
And when I walk alone, I listen to our secret theme

One of the demos was some up-to-5 player game of tag/hide-and-seek where the one with the screen controller is the person chased and gets a little head start to go hide.

The HD graphics looked underwhelming... perhaps it's just too many "Mii"-type kiddie games shown so far. Zelda looked cool but it wasn't a game, just pre-rendered scenes i think.

Also, "Thank you Nintendo for naming your new console "Wii U." It just wouldn't seem right if I didn't feel stupid saying it." Amen.

Yeah that's what worries me too is that they'll release this and it won't actually be as strong as a 360, let alone a ps3. They haven't really told that many specs yet. It is a multicore processor though so we'll see. The good news for them is that MS and Sony don't plan to replace their current consoles for at least another few years, so if it's on par then it just means they're finally competitive. Of course, it apparently has no hard drive, though it is USB external HD compatible. I guess they're cutting certain things to keep the price down? There's no way this can retail for more than 300 bucks and succeed.

The third party games they showed off, assuming they were actually rendered real time on the new system, looked as good as anything coming out on the competition.

That controller is probably gonna be expensive as all hell and I think only one can be connected to the machine cause of how much data gets streamed to it.

I will probably wait 6 months after the release and see how things look. If it looks like they've learned their lesson I'm intrigued enough by the possibilities the new controller provides that I'll probably buy it. Remember that people thought the DS was a gimmick system but it turned out to be really intuitive and awesome in the long run.

Really though, I wanna see nintendo wise up and actually be able to compete with the big boys again. Most of my fondest memories of gaming involve nintendo consoles. Old school NES platformers. The awesome RPGs of the SNES. Goldeneye, Mario Kart, and Bomberman 64 parties in junior high. It's just a shame they weren't able to keep up with the technology earlier so that third parties would actually make games people want to play.

That's what the ol' NFL Blitz style "go to the bottom left and press down three (?) times to get rid of your cursor" thing comes in. I don't need an extra 2 lbs in my hands to accomplish that.

No HDD? Cheesy hide-n-seek games? Only one screen controller per machine?

Granted, I've already said I don't like the screened controller anyway, but if you're going to do something, commit to it.

I envision a Wii U-niverse where the only game being played by kids under the age of 14 is "I WANT TO PLAY WITH THE SCREEN CONTROLLER NOW IT'S MY TURN! GIVE IT TO ME NOW!"

awesome game.

Edit 1: quote readability

Edit 2 to say: Don't get me wrong, I too love Nintendo and would love to see them be a dominant force in the home console market again, providing real competition. But frankly I see this going the same way as my Wii. I'll want one. But if I get one, the excitement of it will last about three weeks. And then another three whenever the next Zelda game comes out. Then it will sit there gathering dust until I want to play Zelda again, which I'll play for another 20 minutes and be content.

I'm all for revolutionary ideas and making the system unique. I just think that first and foremost should be making the system competitive in all the areas that makes people want to buy a 360 or PS3 over the Wii [U], then, once you've nailed that, add something to make the system stand out (a la Kinect on the 360 or, less so, PS Move). Innovation doesn't make one competitive on its own.

the name sounds like some random redneck was passing by nintendo hq one day and said "weeeoo! them's some nice [smth]" and unfortunately there was a window open in the director of naming's office

Nintendo has been one huge disappointment for years. Their games suck. Their online sucks. Their graphics suck. Lets see if they can redeem themselves.
