"Since WotLK came out healing has been all about keeping everyone topped off. Full green bars. But since Cata, healing has shifted to a Triage mindset and it's been a rather difficult one to adjust to. Just remember, healing now means you have to prioritize who gets heals and when. Your job isn't to keep everyone at 100%, it's to keep everyone from reaching 0%. Don't stress and stay focused! It takes practice but eventually you get used to it."

I call BS flag. This is flat out not true even in Normals unless you grossly outgear them. Damage is still spiky in the extreme and healers have a crappy tool set filled with useless, expensive, anemic heals to work with.

Triage is making the tough decisions to let someone live that is going to live for sure with medical help versus someone that is probably going to die even if you work on them. If triage is what is needed, then someone is going to die anyway which is pretty much how it is now except if a DPS is making a mistake, they are dead even if you try to spam heal them out of it.

There is a sticky on the "healer role" official board from a company shill spouting the same crap. It is utter propaganda and their new system sucks ass. Once you outgear an instance, it is total cheese and more boring than WOTLK. But if you don't, you are ineffective and grossly underpowered compared to DPS or tanks.

TLDR: New healer mechanics suck. "Triage" is the new FOTM term being tossed around by company shills at Blizzard. Don't believe this BS, mechanically, healing is in bad shape unless you grossly outgear the content.

Agreed, "triage" is corporate spin for "healers are impotent."

To make matters worse, every time people start settling in to the new paradigm they make some drastic change that forces people to change the way they heal again. Holy pallies for instance have had their play style changed with every patch since the xpac came out.

It is kinda humorous. Way back when, when people like me were saying that GC would destroy the game, we caught hell for it. Now, every week more and more people are seeing that he is destroying the game.

Awesome sauce.

From the tip:

"It takes practice but eventually you get used to it."

Or, I eventually, and eventually meaning months ago, I switch and play something that's, you know, more fun.

I've played healers in most MMORPG's released since EQ1. Well actually I healed in The Realm. Healing can be fun and challenging (CoH, CO, AoC), this is garbage, to use the scientific term.

Actually I think this is a decent tip. Changing my mindset was key to getting used to Cataclysm healing. I hated healing at first until I stopped spazzing out about keeping everyone at full health. I went back to all my vanilla instincts about healing and started enjoying the challenge much more. I really could just tell the DPS to buzz off if they died for dumb reasons like standing in the fire.

Imagine that, the person who okays the bot to post tips thinks a tip is good.

Personally, I don't think I have seen the bot post an actual helpful tip yet. It has all been easily paraphrased by saying: Don't be dumb. With the exception of this tip which can be paraphrased as: *Bleet* Play the way GC wants you to play *much grass* *bleet*.

In fact, I can't recall ever seeing Ashella post here.

I respect your opinion and it is absolutely, beautifully "glass is half-full" positive. I apologize for my negative tone in my post.

With that said, I totally agree if you roll with only guildies or outgear the content you are grouped for. But then that is boring and rote and not a "challenge" which is what they were going for with this new healing system, right?

Blizzard messed up healing. I played a cleric in EQ1, and even though it required a lot of sitting/medding and looong wait times between pulls if you overhealed, it was still more fun than playing a healer in Cataclysm. If you're going to have a dedicated role, it has to be interesting and rewarding in some way - and yes, feel somewhat powerful in capable hands. I personally don't like tedious challenges like eating soup with a straining spoon.

Once I started worrying just about the main bits and not getting everything in my mouth, it was much better. Stuff that got on the table and floor, well, stuff happens.

Just have to change the way you eat. Why? Well because you were told to, silly.

Rofl, dude, you are clueless. When all the tips of the day are coming from the same person and the people who are "submitting" them has to make up user names? You can call tinfoilhat all you want, the tips of the day are all stupid and that person should just stop. If you want to try and help people, there is no reason to make crap up, just freaking post about trying to help. To be all ninja and stealthy about it is just lame. Sokay tho, you can continue to single out my posts and try to be all hard, cuz it really impresses me, honest, it does. Oh and you can look up my post history if you wanna get a boner about the rest of my posts, just a tip of the day.

Hey truth is truth no matter how much you want to point and laugh and try to make fun of people.

Out of the last 6 tips of the day, 1 has been anonymous, 1 has been submitted by Rill and the other 4 have been submitted by users that don't exist. Not quite sure why you are calling conspiracy theory on me, I am just saying, the tips are not submitted by users and they are pretty much useless. Nobody comes here to post helpful stuff, for the very reasons that have been indicated in the past. Everyone wants to come here and mock other people. Moderators included.

Don't like my conclusions, feel free to bugger off.

This. I've received a couple tips via email, some from guildies, many in trade chat when I dare ask, a bunch from wow blogs, and occasionally I'll pilfer the official forums. For example, this tip was condensed from the sticky on the official forums healer section. Interestingly I haven't received a single tip submission via PM on these forums and only a very few via the submissions form. Eventually I hope that more tips will be submitted that way instead of me fishing for tips.

Also, judging which tips get posted and which don't is something of an interesting job. I'm pretty good at filtering obviously bad ones (but I did let one slip with the old link on the bear tank tip >.<). I'm not against beginner tips or UI tips or controversial tips. There are tips waiting to be posted this month that I don't agree with. But I know they can be useful for somebody even if they aren't useful to me. It's actually harder than you might think to come up with a short and concise tip that will be useful and not too vague. I respect those who submit or post tidbits about WoW in order to try an help another person or player out there.

I appreciate the defense Dums. hugs I didn't think I'd need to respond here myself but I do want to defend those who are bothering to submit tips and bringing something useful to WoW Vault. It's sad that the comments are mostly negative but not everyone reads the comments. The tips get more views on the vault than they do here on the forums. So I keep posting them despite the negativity that's been prevalent on the forums lately. I could just uncheck the 'post to forums' box when I post news to the vault's front page, but I don't and won't because there might be some people here who like the tips, news, contests, guides ect who don't visit the vault's main page.

Edit: If it makes you feel better Peo - Shannon is me. It's the name of my priest. I felt weird, Rill being my paladin, posting a priestly/healing tip under the name of Rill (strictly dps or tank). So I used Shannon and probably will continue to do so. Now you know my secret. I am ashamed! *shame face*

I honestly doubt all of the "anonymous" tips posted have been from VN mods, but even if they were, so what?

If they help some people, then great. If not, oh well. I won't say they have all been good tips (and I know they aren't all good, but not all bad either), but at least they try. Seems the Tip of the Day is aimed towards the new player, not the veteran.

I think the whole point of this thread has veered off from the Tip of the Day to how you feel about VN. And frankly, since you feel so vehement against VN, why don't you leave? It's pretty apparent you don't like these forums. And I can guarantee that nobody here will miss you.

Ok, I take that back. The people that like to feed trolls will miss you. The rest of us will go on with our days without a second thought towards you.

Long story short: You like it? Great! You don't like it? GTFO DIAF ROFLCOPTERSTEWANDBISCUITS!

Umm yeah, you don't come down on Rill. That's like the -last- person you come down on around here.

Anyway, I hate to say it, but I've actually been enjoying healing on my disc priest. Yeah I overgear the content by a little bit, but it feels good being able to keep stupid DPS in randoms alive so we don't constantly wipe. More so, I just love disc priests. Something about the BLAR of the shield going up followed by the WHIR WHIR WHIR of penance that tickles me pink.

Only running heroics for heirloom gear, wanting to make some alts.

Who cares? Do you need something to bitch about that badly? Do you honestly think anyone else here gives a rat's ass who posts them? You know why I know they are submitted by other people? Because you seem to be the only one concerned enough with their origin to even consider this kind of conspiracy.

Oh right, this is VN, becuz it is Rill it is ok. My bad. Funny how everyone posts how bad the tips are, but man give them someone to come down on like me and all the people come out of the woodwork to pile on, lol.

I have no allegiance to Rill, I just know she is trying to do a service. Some people like the tips. Some people find value in the tips. Personally, I don't. But instead of complaining and accusing her of going out of her way to create some elaborate conspiracy (to what end?), I just.... (wait for it)..... skip to the next thread.

I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

I am glad that Rill is posting the tips and plans to continue to do so.

Rill, I would not worry too much about the negativity:

1) this is the internet

2) many players are unhappy with the state of the game

3) someone commenting on the state of healing negatively doesn't make the tip bad, someone is expressing displeasure at a bad mechanic change

Rill can do w/etf she wants. She's provided enough to this board and has earned that right.

Don't take it personally bro.

Everyone knows we're all just sharks here. You know how the frenzy gets when there is the slightest hint of blood in the water.

All the posters eyes roll into the back of our heads and next thing you know, we're biting chunks out of each other fins, n' stuff grin
