Diablo II got kinda stupid with the "open, hack all you want" realms...

These just gave people a place to 'practice' before going into the legit ones.

Hopefully they have wised up in that area wink

I wouldnt let fustration over WoW make your decision about Diablo III. I can totally see Blizzard taking their WoW A-Team and placing them on other projects. While the B-Team is managing WoW. You can see this if you take a long hard look at WoW thru the last few expansions. Anyway...just how I feel about it. I will say this though, it will be a travesty and yet another nail in the coffin called "PC Gaming" if Blizzard drops the ball with Diablo III.

Great points, and definetly something to think about. Especially the point about Diablo III being designed for consoles and PC. I have "learned" to cringe and run when I see this. There have been way too many examples of "designing for the PC and consoles" that have gone bad. Point taken.....

Diablo 1 was very unique during its time. You must understand that if you did not play it "back then", people may not feel the same as what many older players of the ~90s felt. We're talking here about some kind of gaming "Woodstock" or some crap. grin

As silly as it sounds, it's like being live at Woodstock Jimi Hendrix vs MP3 Jimi.

Tbh, I am not too hot on D3 myself as I am very certain it will be too "wow/pop cult influenced".

Diablo 1 kept a very dark theme all the time. D2 followed the trait most of the time.

Well, if you did play D1 back then and didn't like it, well, you just didn't like it grin .

They did a good job with Starcraft 2, a fun game. That said, this game lack the usual content of Blizzard's game. Online gaming was fun but contrary to SC1, balance was an issue on 3vs3 and 4vs4. So i would not turn my head of any Blizzard's games because of WoW current status.

That said, although I found Diablo 1 fun, it was not the type of RPG I enjoyed. true it was fairly innovative but not as interesting as other games in my opinion.

As for Diablo 2, it was a polished game, fun but graphics were terrible even at the time they launch it.

I will certainly buy Diablo 3 but I do not think it will be the next best thing. I honestly believe a lot of talented people left Blizzard over the time and you can feel it. About this, Torchlight was created by Blizzard's former employees and the did a funny game is less then 1 year. This is what talent does, with limited resources, limited time a fun cheap game. Imagine the same people with limitless budget.

Simpler controls does not indicate dumbed down, if anything WOW has too many abilities to have on your actions bar. Honestly, if I have to use more than one row to play an encounter there is something wrong with design.

Great points, and definetly something to think about. Especially the point about Diablo III being designed for consoles and PC. I have "learned" to cringe and run when I see this. There have been way too many examples of "designing for the PC and consoles" that have gone bad. Point taken.....

Simpler controls does not indicate dumbed down, if anything WOW has too many abilities to have on your actions bar. Honestly, if I have to use more than one row to play an encounter there is something wrong with design.

This is one of the biggest things that made me say wtf when I resubbed recently.

I always enjoyed the aspect of Guild Wars where you had to limit yourself to a small set of skills whenever you went out to adventure.

So true. Playing a Hunter sucked hardcore with Cata. Soooo many skills I needed to use just for viability sake, especially in PvP. (Mostly due to their stupid implementation of Trap Launcher)

Diablo I was a blast and to appreciate it you really did have to play it when it came out. Or really be into retro games.
Diablo II wasn't much different, other then it was just so boring.....I could never finish it.
I will also buy D3 the moment it comes out, but I am skeptical, but Blizzard gets it right so I hope it is a ton of fun.

Interesting. I found Diablo 2 to be very fun and completed the game multiple times while I found Diablo to be quite boring.

I'm with Diskent on this one. Though I suspect my opinion might have been different had I started with D2.

Agreed Quazi. I started with Diablo 1 and it was awesome for the time. But it was just too slow. You moved at a slow walk everywhere. When D2 came out it was MUCH better mainly because you are far faster. Diablo 1s story was excellent but 2 was just as good in my opinion and the game was broken up in stages a bit better. That's my 2 cents.

"Diablo" and "story" do not belong in the same sentence.

Touche, it was almost 100% hack-n-slash. I agree. But it did have a story with a one-legged boy with a wooden peg....and the devil.

And yea verily did the Gods of WoW proclaim Arenas an eSport. And the Blues did meet to discuss plans for Diablo 3. And Arenas were brought to Diablo 3. monkey

PVP balance will infest D3 at the expense of uniqueness of characters. Now taking bets...

Of course, but not every situation allows for dropping the trap at your feet.

WTB Freezing Shot again plox.

Hopefully b.net will get hacked exponentially worse than SOE has recently and Blizzard will be brought to its metaphorical knees grin
