So as I was leveling yet another noob I went to our guild bank to get some low level matts for her professions and saw the dreaded... nothing but junk left on all 5 tabs. Not a huge problem since we have more junk than anything of great value. (well, I consider the top tier enchants of value but the hacker didn't - weird)

I checked the logs and found that my nephews friends toon was the one who had removed everything. I called him up, he called his friend etc. etc. and I opened a ticket to report his account compromised.

About 2 hours later I get a full restore in my mailbox. Wow, that was fast. (I already demoted his toons etc.) I place it all in the guild bank.

Next day more stuff is in my mailbox. "Oh my mailbox must have been full and this is the rest" so I start putting stuff back in the guild bank when I get to the second item which is 300 or so volatile life.... but we already had 300 volatile life restored and I KNOW we didn't have 600. I then realize that they accidentally restored by guild bank twice. I open a ticket and tell what has happened and state that I did mix some of the stuff into the guild bank already before I realized that they were duplicates. The GM says he will delete everything for me.

He deletes the stuff from my mailbox but never from the guild bank. Also, he missed a mail in my mailbox that has our cata gems... the duplicates...

At this point I just say, screw it and put it back in the guild bank with everything else. I tried. I really tried to be honest... but if this sort of thing happens often then no wonder the economy of Wow is so bad. Very Very sloppy work by 2 gms.

It was a good story until you whined about how they made a mistake while helping you restore all of your stuff.

The reason they didn't go through all of the logs and find out every little thing that they duplicated.. because it doesnt matter.. it was some crappy pixels in a video game.

Yes, its the GMs fault the economy in WoW sucks. rolling_eyes

Yeah, how dare they fix the problem (and fix it fast), caused by the porn habits of your little nephew.

I'm sure these guild bank restore incidents are the main contributor to in-game inflation

*rolleyes*

I am curious if your nephew's friend's account was indeed hacked or he actually stole the stuff.

Last time somebody in our guild got hacked and took stuff from the guild bank the GM told me essentially: Tough luck but we can't do anything about your guild bank. The person who got hacked has to submit a ticket to get it restored. The guy had stopped playing wow for at least a few months and he was deployed so we couldn't get a hold of him...not that it would have done any good. He hasn't come back since the hacking either.

Needless to say that prompted some rank changes in guild. We now have an 'inactive' rank that has no bank access. A general membership rank that has access to one 'Free For All' tab. And every rank past that requires an authenticator.

I'm glad your guild got it's stuff back. It's good to see Blizzard seems to have changed it's stance on that issue. And BONUS for getting duplicates. I've noticed duplicates happen a lot when Blizzard restores stuff. At least half the people I know of who have gotten hacked always ended up with something duplicated. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I don't think it's an honesty issue when Blizzard doesn't seem to care about accidental duplicates. If they did, wouldn't they take more steps to prevent it so it wasn't so common? Food for thought.

Its all about looking after customers

I had this happen a while back to my account and ended up getting 3 times the amount of stuff back
Purely because I was missing certain items as in weapons which I had two of the same etc.
Did I complain ? No….

When I filled in the satisfaction survey they got top marks.

To those wondering. Yes, his account was actually hacked. FYI they check that by seeing if an IP address outside of the country (for example) accessed the account and other various undisclosed ways of verifying that an account is hacked vs. someone just making it look that way.

The reason why this situation bothers me, and even more so now that others have also said that they receive twice as much as they lost, is the game integrity is gone now. It shouldn't be more lucrative to have a guldie hacked than to go farm matts etc. Also, if it is just sloppiness on Blizzards end than that is usually an indication of how a company conducts business.

Also, lol at the trolls. At least I hope they are just trollin'... otherwise... wow.

edit: It also makes me now believe the karatechop story from a while back. I always thought something else was going on there.

Nahh, there is no integrity lost...

Those items would have hit the scene anyway, whether through the AH, or being "sold" to players....

Look at it like this....The guy that hacked the account, used it to mule ...and lost control of it after muling some items...

to your benefit.

If you feel that guilty about it, delete all of the extras.

Integrity of the economy? Considering all the farmers, I doubt a few stacks of extra stuff is going to really throw things off balance.

This is one of those times where I'd say "it's just virtual stuff." It would bother me a lot more if Blizzard didn't restore items, or gave people a hard time about it. Just take the items as payment for your troubles.

Sloppy work is unprofessional.

Why is it so hard to accept that someone has that point of view even if it "benefits" them?

It is called outsourcing. They are not very bright and have high turnover. Probably two people both worked the same ticket and did no homework first.

You, and many people, put way too much emphasis on "integrity" and "economy" in a video game. THEY ARE JUST PIXELS FFS!!!!

The GMs probably didn't look at it this way. They are probably told to err in the favor of the customer and move on to the next. It isn't worth the time and isn't going to destroy the economy anymore than the 5 million gold farmers on Azshara.
