"This, of course, only applies to pet classes, but if I had a gold piece for every Warlock and Hunter who left his pet on "Aggressive" or don't notice it run off and aggro everything when we jump down a shortcut...I'd have a lot of gold pieces. Your pets are tools. They're used for very specific purposes. Keep an eye on them and make sure they're not running wild. All too often a pet on the loose means death for the group."

Stupid tip is stupid. There's a bug involved with pets that causes them to randomly attack mobs you weren't in combat with even when your pet isn't in aggressive.

Yeah but it's still true. I know plenty of people who don't dismiss their pets, drop down and then have the pet run the long way and pull a ton of agro. BRC lately anyone?

And yes there is a bug if a pet does an AE and it hits critters it will go kill every single critter on it's threat table regardless and doubtless agro more fun mobs to play with.

Sheeesh...Is it s stupid tip because it shouldn't have to be made or is it a stupid tip because you don't think anyone who has a pet is clueless?

And frankly forget hunters, I've had more issues with warlocks lately.

It's a good tip with regards to basic operating procedure for pet classes (whose pets can't stealth anyway) but the way the tip is worded is "if I had a gold piece for every Warlock and Hunter who left his pet on "Aggressive" or don't notice it run off and aggro everything when we jump down a shortcut...I'd have a lot of gold pieces." and "Keep an eye on them and make sure they're not running wild. All too often a pet on the loose means death for the group." These editorials imply that hunters are the root cause of a lot of group wipes because they're too stupid to manage their pets, when in fact there are a raft of random, intermittent and completely frustrating bugs with pet pathing and aggro/attack mechanics. Trust the hunter players when we tell you that nobody is more frustrated than we hunters about the bugs, especially when all it takes is a moment's distraction and it's OMG HUNTARD WIPED GRP BYE.

Presentation is important when conveying (friendly) advice. wink

[edit] OMG quoting bot formatting is a PITA.

Sometimes the pet comes down ledges and sometimes it doesn't. FOrtunately it behaves the same in a particular location. but the first time you go into an instance. like BRC and get to that ledge. it's barely a jump. it's more of a hill down rocks. That particular place the pet paths around the long way.

Frankly at this point you've run the instances yourself it's partially everyone's fault now-+. remind all pet users to dismiss the pets there instead of waiting to see what you know will happen.

I do solves a lot of issues.

One thing about the first time i was in BRC... pet pathed all the way around. and nothing agroed it. no idea if it is that way all the time because once i learned that spot i dismiss pet afterwards.

Hunters run around with their pets on Aggressive now? confused

At most I use it in PvP, never once have I seen it necessary to have it in Aggro mode in PvE.

We shouldn't have to summon/dismiss the thing over and over to avoid it taking the 'long route'. If I'm forced to dismiss it, at least let me do so without LOS on it or make dismissal instant cast. That alone would go a long way to avoid the random pet pathing in certain areas.

I may have had pet on aggressive in PvE for a few special circumstances, but I don't remember it.

Would never to be on aggressive while traveling through an instance. Or in a normal instance. Or in a group.

That's just incredibly stupid. In a group, norm would be, growl off, passive on.

Edit - I should add, I've never, ever seen a warlock or hunter in a group with pet aggressive on. Ever. Let alone have them wipe the group.

I use my pet on aggressive on ocassion. If you have a fight where there is little or no chance you will aggro anything that not going to be killed anyway and a lot of the mobs are just little trashy crap ... aggressive can help clean up crap in a hurry. Nothing is more efficient than the computer dukeing it out with the computer.

I will get you in trouble if you forget to to take it off aggressive.

What irks me a little is people that complain about pets being on defensive. To the best of my knowledge, a pet on defensive will not attack anything that dosen't attack it, the hunter or someone in the hunters party. If unwanted mobs attack the party and the pet jumps it, its because someone at the keyboard aggroed it, not because the pet did.

Can you just skip the obvious tips and just have one big one that says, Don't be stupid?

Most of the tips I see are just asking people to not be stupid.
