Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

Title says most of it. I've reinstalled AC to C:\games\turbine\asheron's call and decal to c:\games\decal at least 3 times. I've tried with and without installing ACDC and enabling and disabling compatibility WinXp Sp3 and every option in Decal. Nothing shows up in game at all. I mean, I assume there is supposed to be a little brown bar somewhere. But I don't see anything new. I've followed all the steps and half of the .net frameworks are already installed for Win7. Installed Dx9.0C at least 5 times. I'm at an impasse. The only thing I haven't tried is completely reinstalling Win7 itself, which is pretty much out of the question for a plug-in.

Ah, sorry forgot about the export. I turned off WinXp Sp3 compatibility on all the programs before getting this export but left Run As Administer on for all of them. Also, here is an screenshot of my game, I'm not missing the Decal bar anywhere in there am I? I didn't think I was that dense but I wouldn't put it past me. http://i.imgur.com/SHjwF.jpg Also is there any issue with Decal running with AC in windowed mode? I usually play that way but I did go back to fullscreen and test it completely again real quick and no change. I also updated the video driver to version 8.17.0012.6759 and restarted, but no change. Did you follow the directions for installing in Win7 that is in the sticky post at the top of the page?
The order of installation seems to have an effect on whether or not it is successful.

Forgot to mention, I am Old_Slacko. Just got my old account back. I did use the guide that was found above, it's also on ac.wikkii.com. I had a few problems with some of the pre-install pieces. Some of them were already installed on this system, some either installed too quick or not at all since they kind of just flashed. I tried the Feb10 Directx version, no help. Then tried Jun10, same. I can go back to Feb10 if it lets me.

Here's what I did to try to get it to work. Now what do I do? If I need to install ACDC, do I need to do it before or after Decal? Do I actually need to copy the files over with ACDC or just specify 1 copy of AC and then close out of it? Uninstalled .net 1.1, MSXML 4.0, seems like all i can uninstall. Turned off .net framework 3.5 in Win7. Restarted. .net 1.1: asks to install, MS says it has known capatibility issues, click Run Program. After a dialog bar, looks like it installed fine. .net 1.1 sp1: same compatibility dialog, run program. yes, accept, watch install. complete dialog, looks good. .net 2.0 (x64): Tried to install, but said that it was already installed as part of my OS, no dice here. .net 3.5: extracted, the said "You must use Turn Windows features on and off, so i turned it back on. I turned on the parent, and both HTTP and non-HTTP activation. .net 3.5 sp1: This gives the same error and it looks like it's actuall .NET Framework 3.5.1 in windows features, so that works. msxml 3.0: LINK DEAD. I had to find this file "MSXML (Microsoft XML Parser) 3.0 Software Development Kit (SDK) " and the filename: xmlsdk.msi. Installed, no problem. Shows up as Microsoft XML Parser SDK in add/remove programs. msxml 4.0: Installed MSXML 4.0 SP3 Parser just fine. DirectX 9.0c (feb2010): extracted, ran dxsetup.exe. Worked fine. VB6 Runtimes: It pops up a small progress bar, but it vanishes quickly. Asks to reinstall using recommended settings, did that, same thing for slightly longer. Ran as admin, same thing but no popup. No idea if it worked, going to assume so. Now I went and got the rest of Win7 Windows Updates, including Win7 SP1. Installed decal to it's default directory with the Program Files swap so it's installed to C:\Games\Decal 3.0\. Chose C:\Games\Turbine\Asheron's Call\ as the game directory. Closed program, re-ran with admin, updated. Launching AC: Still no good. Don't see decal bar anywhere. Now what?

have you installed ACDC? I know it shouldn't be required, but I've had issues with one workstation until I installed that, and it worked great

In what order? ACDC or Decal first? Do I need to actually make the 2nd directory or can I tell it to just use 1 copy of AC? Do I launch with ACDC or just install and close it?

AC first, then the ACDC dual client software. You don't have to run multiple clients.

I have no clue why, but reinstalling Win7 fixed the issue and decal works. Bleh.
