Hi, i have just come back to wow and i am not sure which class to level to 85 first. i like dps most as a role but havent really tried the other two. i also like pvp more for end game but love pve too. i have a level 79 mage, 75 warlock? i want to level one to 85 that is good in pvp and pve and that is fun and i wont get bored with.
I would appreciate all ur help, Thanks
also my realm is Auchindaun pvp realm and my chars are zorozha and midg

Wow, you're kind of a jerk, aren't you? How you do know, with 100% certainty that he bought an account?
The game changes a lot. Maybe his 79 is gimped now (and that does happen in MMO's) and wanted some advice.
No wonder this place is becoming a ghost town. You don't know what his story is just like I don't know if you've
levelled your characters yourself. There's no way to prove it either way.
So what's best is to just STFU unless you have something constructive to add.
As for the OP, both are good, depending on the talent specs (google that), but if you want a strong pet class,
go with the Warlock.

There have been a lot of class changes. Can you at least acknowledge that?
WotLK came out in 2008 and you could hit 80 in a month. So let's say he stopped in 2009. There's been a lot of changes, especially with 4.x.x and the re balancing of stats, paired down talents, armor, health and other stuff.
I have a few 85's and a Rogue and Warrior in the high 70's still. I haven't touched them in 2 years. I could see myself asking the same questions about those two characters because I haven't touched them since 4.x.x. Certain classes in Cataclysm are just not as good as they were in WotLK. Period.
Did you put it on your resume that you ACTUALLY levelled some WoW characters to 85? Because you are making it sound like it's some kind of accomplishment to be proud of. Since you can't prove that you didn't buy an account either, I'm just treating you like you are treating the OP. Don't like it, do you?

Yes the VN is a parade of jackasses and the sad part is the mods join in on occasion.
Burn off some blue bars on both and try a few different specs and the one right for you should show itself.

I quit playing in September because I was tired of the game. Then 4.0 happened and then the expansion. Everything changed.
Just because you (presumably) have been playing that whole time doesn't mean everyone else has the same knowledge you do. I came back to the game about 2 months ago with 8 80's and really couldn't decide which one to play. Honestly I still haven't really decided which one to raid with now that I have 5 85's. Would have been very simple to ask the same question the OP did, except he brought it down to 2 classes, both pure DPS, where as I would have asked about 8.
Damn, it's no wonder the WoW community is shit. People like you like to spew your mouth breathing crap without taking 2 seconds to consider the source of a question without instantly thinking "zomg ebay nub". Take a step back, look at the question and maybe, just maybe, try and actually realize why it was asked instead of just instantly jumping on a bandwagon that came to a stall outside of the "uberl33t" camp 2 years ago.
To the OP, I would personally recommend mage. Fire mage is pretty crazy right now, though the other two specs aren't far behind. Fire mages are going to take some nerfs in the next patch, but it's still crazy fun. For the fun factor, I would say fire > ice > arcane. But I've always detested the simplicity of arcane, even if it was the top dps mage spec for what... 2 years?
In the end though, don't listen to any of us. Play both to 85, won't take that long, and decide which class and spec you like the most.

Id go with the Mage to begin.. its "easier" than a warlock and will get you acclimated to the game.
From your questions.. I am guessing you took over someones account also.. but unlike the other people.. I could give a rats ass.

I haven't played my shaman or my druid in months.
I know 100% without a doubt which I would level first, regardless of changes to the game.
I call it like I see it, and do not care if that "call" is popular or not.
I STILL say he either purchased the account, or it was given to him. The odds of a person "being in his situation, and not knowing the answer to the original question", are extremely slim, at best.
No, I cannot fathom someone leveling 154 times on two characters, and needing this information from the VN.

I enjoy playing both Mage and Warlock. Fact is I enjoy playing all classes. I find it best to swap often so you can get two different type of fun. Start a Rogue, Hunter, Tank and Healer. Learn how every class plays and you'll play all classed better.

Burn off some blue bars on both and try a few different specs and the one right for you should show itself.
This... BTW, mage pretty much blows stuff up in PVE and has survivability in PVP because of the control and escape mechanisms. Mage also has convenience of summoned food/water and teleport/portals. Lock has more variation in playstyle from the specs. PVP is more of a challenge but you can still do well.
Bottom line both can do well, so it comes down to your personal preferences. Just beware that DPS only classes face long dungeon finder queues later on, so unless you have a healer or tank friend, you might consider leveling again as a hybrid class and check out all of the new Azeroth content that has been added/revamped.
Finally, I wouldn't get too concerned about which is more powerful or which is gimp, because another big patch is coming up soon, and more than likely all classes will be changed.

I had quit before Cata as well. I came back and decided my druid would be the first to 85, since he was heals. After getting him to 83, I decided I would rather play my DK. After getting HIM to 83, I decided my warlock would be the first 85 after all. Then, I got bored with him at 82.
So my first one to 85? A mage. A mage that was level 22 when Cata launched.
My point is this: it's not a question I would ask, because I would just play them all and decide for myself. No one can tell me what I will have the most fun playing. However, if you haven't played in a while, the mechanics have changed substantially.
I had 5 80's when Cata launched and had absolutely ZERO clue on which one I wanted to level first. And my first 85 turned out to be the one I was sure would probably never even reach 85 at all. So it is possible to not have purchased your account AND still not know which to level first. Hell, even if he did purchase his account somewhere..... who cares?
Play them both for a while. Keep playing the one you have more fun with. Very simple.
