Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.

I'd been running instances for a while and was ready to quit for the day. I was in one last one that was going well. We were moving past a mob when I saw the Warlock's pet run at it. We cleared the mob and started towards the next one. Again the Warlock's pet charged the mob. One of the DPS started cursing up a storm yelling to roll a tank if you wanted to be a tank. It was no big deal to me so I did not say anything. Then I got kicked. Heck, if you are going to be ticked and kick someone at least be sure you got the right person.
I reported him for cursing and logged for the day.

no use in complaining..the WoW community is the worst i have ever exp. in the years i have played MMO's. im hoping that Rift will be at least a bit better then WoW's community.
im happy that im a great WoW guild that is mature and doesnt act like most of the idiots in channel 2.

Sadly all MMOs have the same community these days, because they are trying to appeal to the masses. I can't blame them though, that is where the money is.

Most people who try RIFT will be coming from WoW so fat chance of that. ALL MMOs have a mix of players, good and bad. WoW has more players. So it often feels like there are more bad players. WoW also provides easy ways for players to do things together (cross-realm BGs, DF) so you get to experience good and bad players more often.
When your previous options were to do BGs on your server only (reputation matters a little) or build groups for your server only (reputation matters a little more) the fact that you more often deal with known quantities (players/guild) could sometimes make for more quality grouping/interaction. It also meant that if you didn't have a guild or friends, you could be waiting WAY longer for groups or not getting any at all.
The convenience of x-realm BG queues and DF means that you're going to sometimes encounter undesirables.
The solution in WoW is the same solution for all MMOs - get in a decent guild so you're not having to go it alone. If you insist on soloing thru MMOs, or join a crappy guild, and then try to do social activities (like group) you take your chances - and it's your own choice.
RIFT, if it's any good at all, will not solve player driven social issues any more than any other MMORPG can.

Especially when you couple internet anonymity with this multi-player game setup. "Computer Tuff Guy Syndrome" causes many people to act like royal jerks because, unlike IRL, somebody won't knock their teeth down their throat for being a jackwagon.

Well there are mmorpgs like UO and EVE where being a jerk can earn you quite the beatdown, cost you in-game, and even inhibit your ability to do things in the future if you are obnoxious enough.
Because having one's hand held is more popular than not having one's hand held, the mmorpgs are smaller, unfortunately.
Arm the players with the ability to take things into their own hands. An armed mmorpg is a polite mmorpg.

Excellent point, Kayfabe.
This is the answer to just about every problem that pops up in these "multi-player" games. Rather than game companies trying to stuff square pegs into round holes when dealing with the social aspects of these games, they really ought to put that energy and talent into designing systems that fairly allow the players to handle "problems" in the community.
FoLack of /alliance and /allianceCHAT is one that comes to mind in WoW. Can't communicate, or feel like part of a realm community unless you are in town... and since any schmuck can /chat in there, you get the worst of the worst. Guild alliances with chat systems could allow for you to have that "massive" feeling, while still maintaining your own guild AND the ability to police member guilds/players from making the chat unusable.
All could be handled BY THE PLAYERS if the proper systems are implemented to ALLOW IT.
