I keep hearing how long the new Cata dungeons take and I want to know if that's the general consensus, or if they just take so long before being properly geared. So, what is your experiences? I loved the WotLK style half hour dungeons, but that won't be the case here, sadly. Anyone have some experience in all of the new Cata ones? (Or most?)

In a guild group, most cata heroics are in the 45-minute range. I'd guess that drops to close to 30 minutes once everyone is in raid gear.

Which pretty no one you are grouping with is in raid gear so they take like 2 hours.

If you complete them, they take anywhere from 45 minutes for a fully raid geared group that plays together a lot to 2+ hours for those groups who are nominally geared and are using the LFD tool. PUGs can be highly frustrating as it takes 5 non-fail players who know what they're doing and understand that you can't AOE the CC'd mobs. Rather like WotLK was back when Naxx was where progression raiding was at, except moreso.

If everyone is geared adequately and more importantly has done the place at least once or twice before and knows the patterns to avoid mistakes it's about a half hour run on normal, 45 min or so on heroic. Now if people are new, it can bog down fast. The basic combat theme from beginning to end in the Cata content I have tried is everyone will move their ass quickly or die relatively fast coupled with usually at least one channeled death AOE that must be interrupted or prevented and some people still are getting used to it or need to experience it once to learn it.

Heroic simply raises the bar since not moving in time instead of simply getting you mostly dead in average gear is a pretty much an insta gib even for raid geared tanks. The internet being what it is in the US compared to smaller countries, lag can and will cause deaths on heroic since timing things when a monster is channeling something can be a semi-random outcome. However, generally speaking if people move, it's easy, if they don't, it can quickly be a wipe that hopefully they learn from and you move on.

For example, the Worgen druid (tank/resto) I have been playing casually from level 1 just got up to doing regular stonecore and not a single person other then me had ever been there. Druids have minimal tools for pulling with all the casters in Stonecore so between me having to mark and explain what to look for, who needed CC and had to die first it was close to an hour's run on normal. It made from some exciting fights that I certainly never saw falling asleep in WotLK areas but it's still amazing that as old a game as WoW is now, you will still see things at the end game like hunter pet running wild into other groups, or people running away from a tank to die out of line sight, or the time tested and proven method of WotLK success where everyone picks a target at random and blasts away.

They take roughly an hour for my group of guildies who have zero raid gear, average item level around 346. A little longer if it's our first time through and we're learning some harder mechanics, faster if it's a repeat.

Good group - 45 mins - 1:15 depending on the instance. (some are longer than others).

PUG - I have had some excellent pugs, and we blast through in 45. Others were you can wipe time and time again due to screw ups.

Once you have a good healer/Tank and 1 strong dps - no worries. There are several boss fights, which can be done tank/healer. Even the last boss in TOT Phase 3 can be soloed by a dk.

Give it time (and gear) and we will probably see the 30 mins again for the current heroics. (new content heroics will be at the 1hr +)

In heroic level gear with a good group that knows how to do the fights, you'll breeze through in 45 min or so. I agree there. However, if you're not geared yet and/or don't know the fights, it can take significantly longer. Anywhere between 1.5 and 3 hours seems to be the norm for inexperienced/pre-heroic geared groups.

This made me feel better too. Now, I want to actually go try them. Before, I was afraid of the unknown.

It is 30-45min in a pug already. I was afraid of heroics by reading the forums. I tried it and i complete heroics without trouble. 1-3 wipe at most if at all. All pugs.

You have to have an average item level of 329 and have physically been to the dungeons (just like normal)

To run them successfully, you have to have an average ilvl of 340 for pugs, give or take, according to the makeup/skill/experience of the rest of your group.

I call BS on the 30 mins, unless the people are all raid geared, gemmed, and enchanted. Specially if you wiped even once.

1-2 hours was the time it took most of my groups. had to repoison every single time as a rogue...which means too long for me. if i wanted to dedicate 3 hours (queue time + dungeon completion time) to one sitting of WoW i would do something that actually gives top tier rewards like raiding or arena. i left many a dungeon group part way through just because i was bored or had to leave because of time constraints. difficulty is nice and all but its too much of a time commitment right now.

I know this is completely contrary to your MO of flying solo in an MMO world, but make friends with a tank or healer. Or play one. If you aren't the guy i'm thinking of, my mistake.

The friends you make can suck worse than the tanks and healers in PUGS oftentimes, though.

Despite the flat out lies people are fabricating here, the reality for most players is that heroic dungeon PUG's, as of right now, are the equivalent of a raid as far as time is concerned. It can easily take and hour or two, and usually does.

If your experience has been otherwise, you are one of the few, or you are just full of )#($ like most of the dumbasses on VN, who get some kind of strange jolly pretending a major issue is not really an issue, when everyone knows that it is, even blizzard, who is already getting very worried.

Just sayin'

I'm a casual player.

Considering the gear requirements of dungeons/heroics, plus the time investment that seems ot be required. I can see myself running a dungeon a week. While leveling profs on the side.

Does it bother me? No. Why? Because I enjoy playing the game.

So far I've opened up Stonecore regular. I'll prob run it tomorrow night, making sure to read about the run before I go.

/shrug.
