the grey items you make with archeology have no use correct? You don't save them up an turnt hem into Harrison Ford for bonus points or something of that nature? They're grey that means vendor. Ok? Yeah...right, got it.

Vendor away! There are various achievements for finding them, but you certainly don't need to keep them or do anything with them.

Which lore-wise I think is kind of stupid. Imagine if Indiana Jones, upon finding the Ark, decides to pawn it away at one of those merchants in Egypt lol. They should've of at least made it so you get a little exp when you turn it in.

We had a newbie in guild, poor kid likes lots of hand holding. A couple of us couldn't help having a wee bit of fun at his expense.

Newb: Do you have to buy a mining pick to do archeology?

Me: Yes, and you need a set of dusters and archeology tools.

Guildie 1: Don't get forget your brushers and archeology kit!

Me: Brushes, dusters, whatever! tongue

Newb: Is it hard? Does it take a lot of gold to level?

Me: Yes. You have to go dig up things and then you have to clean them and get all the pieces to put them together. Takes a lot of time.

Guilde 1: Yeah, once you make things, you need ot save them and turn them into Harrison Jones in Uldum after you've done all his quests.

Me: Yeah, I didn't know that, saving up stuff now. I'm almost out of bag space! And you have pay someone to help you put artifacts together sometimes in order to learn them too.

Newb: Where do you start training it? Is there a quest or something.

Me: Yeah there's a big long quest chain that starts with a dropped item in one of hte digs, have to go farmf or it.

Guildie 1: It's a pain to get the drop but I can tell youa llt eh stuff you'll need to get to finish the quest. 5 Hardened elementium, 4 Pyrium, a stack of Azshara's Veil, 12 volatile earth....

Poor kid was freaking ot at that point so we finally broke told and told him before he started blowing gold on the AH.

Flip side is I made myself paranoid thinking htere might be something you can do with those little gray items...

as another note, the canopic jars from Uldum, can be opened after you make them. Which is where the mount recipe can be found.

I got my first mini-pet from this secondary. The skeletal raptor. That was definitely a plus after too many common items.

Yeah not sure wha tI thinka bout all the little gray items. With other professions, I dind't liek leveling it up because the lowbie stuff had such limited uses. Well now they have no use! tongue Oh wait, vendor! 10s! Go me!

Is it better to be obviously useless? I think we shoudl be able to discover random equippable green stuff at least. Or at least a 100 year old jug of ale at a dwarven dig. Msakes you huge and gives you a 10m enrage while singing bawdy songs at full volume.

Agreed. It be cool if more of the items were at least fluff or cosmetic, but I suppose the rares and epics are to balance the lack of 'useful' finds.

This gets posted and responded to on the official forums every so often. There are quite a few fluff items in the game if you look for them.

Also, the story above about Pally's guild mate made me cry more than laugh.

The most stupid item you can get with archeology has to be the dwarf chalice.

The gray items are a huge disappointment / a bit insulting.

They should've been some sort of currency you could spend at an archaeology vendor, and/or just been worth a decent amount of gold.

Truth, unlike other professions. There is no possible profit with archeology. You just solve and hope to get an epic at the end.

I meant to say this in my original post, but forgot to till I read the new replies. It sort of goes with what I said though.

"Hey, great job finding that ancient dinosaur fossil and the priceless, never before seen troll mask! Now go and get rid of it to that vendor over there, he'll give you, maybe 10 silver."

Maybe they purposely make you sell the junk items so that they can then break up the pieces, and throw them back into those dig sites for other players to find lol.

I don't expect to make a ton of money off this profession. But it would be nice if items we found could really be donated to an NPC museum or something for reputation points or something. Even a lousy shirt that says "I dug up some cool artifacts and all Harrison Jones gave me was this hat!"

Oh I dunno, I love my dwarven baby socks. I have saved all of them on all my archeologists. I've had a few bronzed. The others, well, they were already Plate and size 16 and I got a hernia trying to put them in my vault.

It's a secondary profession. How rich does the average player get from fishing?

Do you think that is common (and do you know what people buy the fish for)? I see a half dozen players at every dig site I go to any time of day I log in. I see a few people fishing as I fly between all the dig sites, but it seems far more in archaeology. There are some common items in archeology that vendor for 1g to 9g so it isn't like they are all 10s.

Bored out of my head and with a torn rotator cuff about all I can do is fish.

I fished 1000 pools (note the pools not random fishing)

I made 2000+ gold off the V.waters (at an average of 10g per)

1000g from 2 turtle polymorph recipes.

750ish gold from eels (cooked into the 90 agil food)

1000ish gold from Mudbelly cooked.

And I still have stacks of fish that I can sell.

This was accomplished through out one day. around 4 hours all told in game time perhaps?

Cool - I guess it's just too boring or I'd see more people fishing for money. A couple of those combined fishing/cooking. Maybe they could have an archeology find that gave you higher output from cooking/fishing and tie all 3 secondaries together. happy

It's a long con. The price is high and the market is very limited. Have to be an alchemist to loot it and only other (rich) alchemists can use it. Then you sink a lot of money in it and hope the vial sells. *and* you have to spam /trade to avoid the AH cut that is substantial at that price point.

With that said, I capitalized on those pain points and bought mine for 32K + 10 truegold bars grin
