Anyone hear of this yet?
There are supposedly top rated teams using it where somehow they are showing as level 85 but taking damage as level 86+ based on absorbs and damage numbers.

I have no idea how this works or even if it us true. Someone who does (and does arena) should investigate :P

Don't get me wrong. A gladiator could still probably kill me if he/she were naked. It just disturbs me that this would even be possible. Is it?

The simplest answer would be that the addon they are using to track absorbs is buggy.

yes there is and every season since like season 2 there has been people cheating and exploiting I dunno even know why people still do arena.

Wouldn't surprise me. Blizzard decided to put too much authority in the client's hand, which is the biggest no-no in any MMO. But it helps with easing server load.

Case in point : teleport and terrain hacks. Your options roughly are:

  • You let the server position every player object, deal with collision detection, etc. This is the most secure way.

  • You let the client send periodically send player coordinates, and the server overrides them if they don't make sense. That will result in rubberbanding, so familiar from DAOC.

  • You let the client tell its position to the server with absolute authority ... you will get chinese gold farmers spelling out their website name in the air.


  • I would not be surprised if they offloaded resistance processing to the client. That's an insane amount of calculations to make in prime time when everyone is out fighting stuff and I presume their overloaded hamsters can use any break they get. Cheating in PVP was hardly ever a priority for Blizzard.

    (I hope the cheat works in PVE too ... that at least ensures a quick fix)

    Arenas are bogus as it is anyway. I get conquest points weekly from rated BGs but I have a RL friend who wants the same axe as me. We formed a 2-man arena team (gogo double warrior /boggle) and queued and played until he was conquest point capped. There is no real "loss" by having a 1win:2loss ratio. In three weeks he'll still be sporting the new axe.

    I actually have one more win than him as he was unable to queue one round. The warrior/rogue team I faced solo were pretty sad. The rogue was from my server and had words for me after the round. Apparently he didn't like me using retaliation while disarmed.
