Subject: Terrible screen flicker stuff with VirView and VirHUD enabled
Second day now working on Decal. AC and Decal both installed to c:/oldgames, xp sp2 compatible, installed decal in correct order from post here, win7 64 os.

Decal ran great with just DHS and FindIt, framerate is 160 w/o decal, 100 decal on, 18 when I open FindIt to edit.

Wanted more plugins so I installed Virindi Bundle to the default path c:/games/virindiplugins, at first the decal bar was stuck on top of the Virindi Bar and I thought that was the cause....disabled all Vir from decal and was able to put the decal bar on top. Rechecked all vir boxes in decal and started AC and after the vials screen the rest of the load screens started to flicker and overlap one another. I click enter game I can get character in world, but when I move the mouse a large bar scrolls down the screen continuosly and stat bars disappear. The Virbar is on left side and decal bar is on top/left of screen.

When I uncheck VV bootstrap and Vir HUD in decal and leave the rest of the Vir bundle plugs checked, the load screens still flicker and overlap but when i get character ingame its all good. Except there is no Vir bar and all Vir plugs are in the normal decal bar.

Ah. It looks like your video card is actually two video cards in one, so it is like running SLI. My guess is that this is a result of the way the SLI driver deals with a lockable backbuffer.

A few possible ideas:
1) See if the driver has an option to disable SLI mode for a particular application
2) Try the no decal bar inject.dll, if you can live without the decal bar and decal views ( http://www.virindi.net/wiki/index.php/Virindi_Views#Advanced_tweaking )
3) Try a different video driver version

This would seem to imply it is the autoupdater window causing the flicker at startup. Virindi autoupdate filter uses Decal HUDs to display the info box, so if that is causing you problems it is likely that any Decal HUD plugin will as well. This is not too surprising, since Decal HUDs and Virindi Views work similarly.

Rather than go without any Decal HUD or VVS stuff, I would suggest first looking at the above options. Using Decal Views is certainly a much larger performance hit than running in non-SLI mode, if there is an option for that in the driver.

Many thanks for such a fast response, and your plugins look awesome, excited to play some AC with them.
Did a bunch of surfing around on wikipedia about ATI CrossfireX ( same as Nvidia SLI ) and cannot find anyway to change the mode for applications.

I did do the no decal bar inject.dll like you said and the load screens are clear as a whistle, but... when I log in character, portal space has horizontal black lines scrolling and faster, in game is clear ( with an improved 150 framerate ) until I mouse over the Vir Bar then variable sized horizontal bars scroll like crazy until I bounce the mouse on and off the Vir bar a couple times to get it to stop. Touch the Vir bar again, same thing.

I took a screenshot when things were all crazy and the image is completely clear. So is it just my display screen thats freaking out ??

Turning off crossfire x didnt change anything. Thinkin about getting a newer card, single graphics card. I read up on micro stutter problem with dual cards, didnt understand all of it but I need simple, Im just a bricklayer in RL happy

Thanks so much for your time and help. Once I get a new card I will give Virindi Bundle another go.

Did you try turning on VSync? There is an option for it in the AC settings and your video driver might have one as well. Also from what I have heard turning off SLI/CrossfireX for just one application is less likely to fix microstutter problems than turning it off completely.
