Damn his magic systems are strange!

well okay I've only read the Way of Kings and I am reading Mistborn now.

But honestly!

Not that it's a bad thing, it actually makes his novels separate from normal fantasy literature (that's good) but where does he come up with them?

But I can see the similarities between the Mistborn and the Way of Kings styles of magic.

He puts a lot of thought in to those magic systems. Some of them he says he has been refining since he was a teenager.

The Mistborn one is pretty complex, it even has tables.

That isn't just a pretty chart, there are reasons why certain things are in certain places relative to each other.

heh I was wondering what all the metals were,

i'm only halfway through book 1 and it just has mentioned iron, steel, copper, brass, tin, pewter, zinc and bronze and atium.

oh and the "11th" metal.

but I kept going on in my head wait that's not ten metals what's the 9th metal why don't they mention it at all!

I really appreciate the effort writers like this put into creative magic systems. The same old same old is just, well, old. In addition to Brandon, I also like the magic (referred to as Fae) system created by C.S. Friedman in the Coldfire Trilogy.

One thing I noticed about his dialogue that irks me, is that its always so one-tracked.

Guy 1: I have this master plan!
Guy 2: I don't understand why
Guy 1: [explains motivations]
Guy 3: but what is your plan?
Guy 1: [explains plan]
Guy 2: I don't understand this
Guy 1: [clarifies plan]
Guy 3: hey, let's have lunch
Guy 1: actually I have to go so we can end the scene.
