Subject: Connection Issues
I've been having some trouble recently connecting to AC. I do the log in, choose my server and the "connecting" bar fills up and then the "patching" bar doesn't. After about 30 seconds or so it times out and tells me my connection to the server has been lost.

I've have been able to connect after port forwarding/port triggering ports 9000-9013 through my router as I've read on some of the help files, and this has been the only way I've been able to connect. Unfortunately my connection totally drops every few days and the system (router/cable modem, etc) forgets how to get along with AC. Usually I'm lucky and after a few rounds of restarting, unplugging router and modem and waiting for the hard reboot, hitting the reset button on the cable modem, repairing the connection through my network places, refreshing the "connected device" list through the router set up, and any combination of the above I can connect and as long as I don't exit the game and stay at the char select screen I'm good to go the next time I want to log in. This time I'm not so lucky. I tried for 2 hours last night and about 30 minutes so far today to connect with no luck.

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? I've been all over the AC support page and other pages I've found while googling AC connection issues. Any input would be appreciated.

Also, I remember when I played years ago there was a way to access the "backdoor" sign in. I don't quite remember how you did it but it was a quicker way to log in and I noticed I had fewer problems in actually connecting (I had problems back then too). I don't know if this is because back then there were 8000-10000 people on TD at any given time and it was an overload or the backdoor connected via a different port or something but if anyone knows what I'm talking about, I'd be willing to give that a try and see if it works.

I am running Microsoft XP Professional Service Pack 3.

When you setup your port forwarding, did you assign your computer a static IP address and forward the ports to that IP?
