I know this is probably a troll but I will bite.
When you use an authenticator for the first time it comes up as a popup window after you input your username and password at the main login screen and then everytime you log in after that it has a third window under password for your authenticator. If you log in with an account that doesn't have an authenticator attached at any point, that third window goes away on the next login screen shown.
So, TLDR, the authenticator extra field shows up after you successfully login with an account with an authenticator and goes away after a successful login with a non-authenticator account.

Okay, this is the problem. When it says you have to convert it, it gives you a link to battlenet and then you put in a CD key. I accidently put in a trial CD number that came in the box and started a new account. No big deal. Except it doesnt require the authenticator so that window went away. And when I try and log onto it with my regular account, the window doesnt come back not does the authenticator window popup like it used to. Yes, I copy/pasted also and tried several times. Nuttin.

No and no. I actually detached my authenticator and reattached it and still nothing. I guess itll have to wait til tomorrow to talk to support. This sucks.

Wierd, my client was re-installed back in WOTLK toward the beginning and I haven't reinstalled since. Cata was just installed over WOTLK. I have had my Authenticator for over a year now and it has always behaved this way. My brother has an account without an authenticator and everytime he ever used my machine it behaved as I said above. /shrug

Something's obviously not right...
Have you successfully attached the authenticator to your main account through the account management website? If you did, then every time you log into the website it should ask you for the authentication number. You can have more than one account on an authenticator, so that shouldn't be a problem. (You can always disable it from the trial account as well.)
Sign in and attach your authenticator for your main account here:
https://us.battle.net/account/management/authenticator.html
If it works on the website it should ask for the authenticator at the game login screen. If you only see 2 fields (login and password) type those in, hit enter, and you should get a popup asking for the authenticator code.
If you can't log into the game, what error does it give you?
