VI,

I run 9 clients simultaneously most of the time. Does using Virindi Views offer any speed andvantages over the default decal view methods?

I notice now that If I have a couple vtank windows open on a few clients (using normal decal view), I can see those clients struggling over the clients that have no plugins open.

Thanks!

Yes. Virindi Views draw faster than Decal Views.

9 clients though...I hope you have a lot of video memory! And, with more than 2 clients per core (assuming you don't have a 6 core system) AC itself will really not be happy. Anytime you portal into a new area with a bunch of clients at once expect freezing :\

i7 960 @ 3.2GHZ (8 cores)
24 gig ram
win7 x64
Intel Extreme SSD 64 gig
ATI 5870 2gig vid card

with all 9 actively fighting, i'm around 20% CPU load.

The only time it gets choppy is when a client actually has a decal plugin open.

I'll have to check out virindi views then. Thanks!

i7 960 has 4 cores, not 8.

Its a hyperthreaded CPU, which basically turns each physical core into two useable cores.

On that note though, all 9 clients are only using 4 functional cores. I think because they are not multi threaded apps they are not using the additional functional core per physical core.

taskman shows each client using about 1-2% CPU.

It was the memory that was the issue in my setup. I initially had 8 or 12 gig I think. 9 clients would eat that up too quickly. 24 gig was the cure.

Hyperthreading really doesn't magically add extra cores. The most effective use of it is that spinlocked threads will only use 12.5% instead of 25% of your cpu.

Anyhow, Decal views are really slow and require locked backbuffer and loads of vram blitting. Virindi Views don't suffer from the same problem.

Yea, I've decided to add VView support to my plugins.

I'll still need to use decal views for Alinco though.

I prefer VTank looting to Alinco, myself. I think Alinco has a tendency to cause crashes and is not particularly reliable. VT looting is a lot more complicated to set up, however.

One advantage of using VT looting is you don't need any Decal views active, so you can completely disable the Decal bar as well. That is the setup I am using personally, and not having to draw the Decal bar adds a decent amount of performance.

I used to use vtank looting. Haven't used it in quite some time.

My setup never crashes unless I don't restart my clients after a very, very, very... long time. Before VI fixed the decal network issue, I used to crash randomly, ALL the time.

I probably have about 30 filters in my alinco profile, all looking for specific pieces. With 9 clients, sorting through what I don't want is too tedius.

I might check out vtank looting again though.

Thanks!
