I know about "dismiss pet".

I know about "respec arcane/fire".

I know about "disable all sound effects".

I know about "unsubscribe".

I tried the option to disable pet sounds, but it doesn't affect "drain boy".

I've only been playing this mage two days; please someone tell me how to turn off the noise, before I have to call out a plumber.

Flexing my google sk33lz:

[NOTE THAT ALL FOLDERS AND FILES ARE CASE SENSITIVE!]

Step 1: File Structure

Go to your World of Warcraft/Data folder, check for a folder named "Sound" if no folder exists make one.

Now go inside the Sound folder you created (or if one already existed) now you are going to make another folder inside Sound named "Creature" (If for any reason one already existed leave it) go into your Creature folder.

Now the last folder you will make will be "WaterElemental"

Your folder structure should now look like this: World of Warcraft/Data/Sound/Creature/WaterElemental

......................................

Step 2: Creating the File

This part is extremely simple, open up notepad, go to file/save as, save the file with the name "WaterElementalLoop.wav", save it where ever you like (also you must put the .wav after the name).

Now just move your new wave file into your WaterElemental folder, enjoy!

......................................

All hail the mighty google.

to be honest, at least one drawback should this FOTM-class suffer!

How is mage FOTM? Mage has been ridiculous 1-button DPS for quite some time now. Through most of ICC it was all mass AB spam with a few Arcane Missiles thrown in for good measure...

I was going to suggest they dismiss the pet, but I went ahead and read the original post. happy

Ursa's google-revealed method gave me an idea. I think I will hack Blizzard's updater and replace the shamans' lightning bolt sound with that LARP guy saying "lightning bolt."

Played with the wav file for my DK's charger over the summer and now it makes a cow sound when I mount and the opening bars from the Olympic Fanfare and Theme (John Williams) music when I dismount. 'cuz DK's are just that awesome <straightface>

And thanks to CapFan, who found the location of the Horn of Plenty for me, I was able to play around with several Looney Toons style Cartoon sounds for it. dancing

I wasn't talking about Frost. I'm pretty sure the person calling mage FOTM wasn't either...

edit: or they were. I haven't seen that many Mages in the few BG's I did the last couple days, but I haven't been looking for them either.

It's always humorous to see the usual thought that some other class is easy overpowered one button dps while no doubt the people who toss such comments around think their own class is of course incredibly tough to play and requires "skill".

I don't pvp on my mage and haven't run a frost mage since vanilla where it was a good idea if you wanted to run Molten Core. I do pvp on my resto druid and have to say that seeing mages actually be able to live more than five seconds in the average fight warms my heart.

Well, I do play Mage and they are easy, they always have been and probably always will be. FOTM though, not really. They haven't changed all that much in Cataclysm. Their new talent trees are pretty nice, and the new Fire is...fun, but not really viable for single-target damage.

We I have been victim to them and seen the tactics with perhaps a bit less of a biased view than some here.

I agree with you on fire. It's fun, but clumsy especially when signle target dps will once again matter most. Ironically, they made all three trees viable, but in a way just further pushed raiders into arcane and pvp'rs into frost. More of the same, just different rotations.

My earlier point is optimal play on all classes are figured out pretty quickly and lot of them are pretty much two to three buttons.

Fire is extremely fun and I like the crit-streaks and blowing past 10k DPS with a huge ticking Combustion....but, it requires a lot of luck to do that, whereas I can go Arcane and mash ABx4 with AP up and do 12k, no luck required. They really need to fix Fire, because I mean honestly? The entire tree revolves around AoE, and I thought the idea of Cat was to reduce/remove AoE as a viable thing to do on every god damn pull?

I could be completely wrong here, but IIRC from parses in the beta, Frost / Fire were pretty close and Arcane was lagging.

The proc weaving for Frost REALLY makes me happy.

If FoF: DF. If no DF, IL. If BF + FoF, FFB. Pet freeze for MOAR PROCS! Love it.

From how long ago? I remember hearing they reduced Fire damage a bit awhile back. I can't imagine how scaling alone would make Arcane lag behind and fire jump ahead, cause as it stands right now, it's not even close.

The Mage is the new hunter. I even dusted off my 40.

The sound of the pet makes me want to pee after a while.

Its more to do with the required mana management that Arcane now has than any scaling changes. Higher up, spamming AB is impossible. And yes there is a significant addition to the mage at 81; Flame Orb / Frostfire Orb. It really adds a TON of damage.

AB spam is only for short 5man bosses. In normal circumstances you do ABx2/x3 and Missiles or Barrage, and you can stay at 90% or so mana constantly.
