Im going to trade in my cable connection for a wireless adapter to my neighbors wifi. How well would this work? Does anyone else have any issues with this?

I wouldn't suggest it. It works ok sometimes, and other times you'll have huge lag spikes. Its just not reliable. I had mine set up perfectly with in my own house, and I would have times where the game was unplayable other times it worked just fine.

If you are a raider, for sure no.

Casual and you can put up with that.. well still no.

It works damn fine. I am purely wireless in my house and have about 90ms latency time. Have no problem with dungeons, pvp or anything.

I'll also add I play on a MacBook Pro and I can generally get a strong signal even when friends with Windows machines can't even pick it up.

Sometimes it works fine and other times it can get very laggy.

Sharing your neighbor's wireless is a crime in most states, just in case you care happy

Buy a good wireless router and it should play well.

EDIT: Just re-read the part about "neighbor's wireless". I hope your neighbor doesn't mind sharing and has a good router. wink

In all honestly "wireless" is so vague that it's hard to give you any advice without more information.

There's a huge difference between using a wireless B card to connect to a neighbor who lives halfway down the block next to a cell tower and using a dual band wireless N card to connect to a network in an adjacent apartment.

That said, there are wireless setups that will give you more than enough bandwidth to play WoW without a hitch.

How far away is your neighbors access point? Does he know you are using it? If not, that shit is very illegal. Depending on the construction of your house, your signal might be fine. It might be terrible.

There is just a ton of variables to consider. For me personally, I get big spikes sometimes if I'm wireless. I also lose about 10 mbps of download, so I just ran a wire.

This is a wireless connection from my mother-in-laws apartment downstairs from my wife and I. She (my wife) currently uses the connection already for her laptop and doesnt seem to have issues. I was planning on just using a USB wireless adapter to grab the same connection for gaming. Suggestions on a decent adapter?

Wireless is only sucky if your provider or adapter sucks balls. Using sucky hardware/drivers causes sucky performance? Whodathunkit?!?

Wireless works just fine. I would recommend you get permission to leach. If not you should know that it is easy to see that someone unknown is on the system. It is also easy to block. I had someone doing that for a few days; which forced me to encrypt the system. Pain in the rear because I have to type that 22 letter code for any new device I get. I also have to type it in for family when they visit.

You're aware that wireless signal is wireless, and by definition, may pass through other interferences to reach its access point, right? Not everything is so cut and dry with this.

One would presume that adjusting for range and interference fall under "common knowledge" when dealing with wifi. Certainly, in today's Wikipedia/google age, that information is well explained and very trivial to find. So, eliminating that, we're left with provider reliability and hardware/software implementation issues; thus the comments. Or were you just arguing for the sake of argument?

Hooked up a Linksys wireless adapter. Dont really see any issues with the connection and WoW at all as of yet. Im sure in some high population areas, Ill get some lag, but as it is now, I havent had issues. I still have cable until the end of the month, but it looks like this wont be an issue.

Sweet. I get to save 650 bucks a year now.
