Do the quests all reset every time there's a major patch or expansion? This was the first time I was going for it so I can't say. I just know that I basically have to start all over again.

If you didnt get Loremaster before 4.0.3, it was reset and you have to do it all over again.

Even if you did it before 4.0.3a, you have to do it all over again to get credit for the individual zones. tongue (although you do retain the title)

I was making a run at it, but I don't think I'm going to bother with it now. I don't think I could stomach STV again sick

I'm not sure I agree with this, though I haven't done any sort of analysis. It sounds to me as though it will be harder rather than easier.

Think about it: Before, you could get Loremaster of Kalimdor (I was about 2/3 of the way there pre-patch) or Loremaster of the EK (I was about 1/4 of the way there) by doing any quest on a particular continent that awarded progression toward the achievement. This excludes many quests, repeatable ones, dailies, etc for obvious reasons.

Now, you HAVE to quest in EVERY zone in order to get this achievement. Sure, travel has been made easier, but to give an example: Pre-patch, one could get (roughly) 1/6th of the way to Loremaster of Kalimdor by simply doing all the Silithus quests. One zone, little travel and you'd get approx. 116 or so of your quests done right there. Now, only 19 of those Silithus quests will count toward the achievement, as after 19 quests you get the "Silithus Quests" achievement and doing more quests doesn't advance your progress.

Maybe there are fewer than the 700 needed for LoK. I'd need to add them up to see. Either way, much more travel is required than before.

I did Loremaster of EK on 11/6/08, Loremaster of Kalimdor 11/7/08 - back when you had to do 760 or whatever it was quests which left something absurd like fewer than 10 quests you could skip. You couldn't skip any zones or even any significant portion of any zone back then. I'm going to thump my chest a bit here and tell you that I have no sympathy! tongue

Yes, thought this was a bug when things reset, but apparently it's intentional. Guess that's another way to get the older characters to refill the Old/New World and see content.

As far as each patch, no. I believe this change happened due to the radical changes Cataclysm brought to the table.

Each patch does not reset achievements unless otherwise noted.

They warned about the reset long before 4.0.3, there was a link in the launcher too, as well as new bot posts on this forum. It was unavoidable technically since most quests would be completely redone. Could they have done otherwise? I think yes, they could, since they kept track of every quest done by your char server side. But hey, at least they warned people to finish as fast as possible before the patch...

I did it later when they already had reduced the number of quests per continent, and you still couldn't really skip any zone completely.
Note that I did it on a DK though, so it still deserves a little consideration... wink

/puffs up chest while sitting in a rocking chair

And I did it with a mage I'd rolled weeks after Vanilla released and couldn't remember which quests I'd done and which I hadn't.

/shakes cane

It was hard work, I tell ya, hard work!

/thump thump thump!

/mutters under breath about how hard WoW is...porting uphill to Ironforge in both directions!....Loremaster Senility....young whippersna.....zzzzzzzzzzZZZzzzzzz...

PS: @OP: went out to wowhead to see if they have updated info. The guide still offers good advice. Don't know about specific quests, haven't seen any comments added since the major patch. Don't know if the addon has been updated (I never used it.) They HAVE included Loremaster of Cataclysm there, so I have to assume some of the data is from beta. They mention new zones.

Good luck with this if you decide to pursue it!

I think of this stuff as something to do once you've played thru all the new content from cata. Once you hit the cap and have done every new zone what else is there besides trying to max each gear slot and repeating whatever things you enjoy doing over and over (battlegrounds/arena or what have you)? At that point these longer achievements are just something to work on as filler between doing 'the usual' until you actually get close and decide to finish one completely.

I don't know if it's a bug or what, but I just looked and it shows I've done 4/19 Silithus quests. I haven't quested there at all since 4.0.3. Weird.

Might be that some of the errand quests talking ABOUT the Silithus counted towards it like the dowsing rod line in Tanaris (if that even still exists) maybe?

Well once you unlock all the new flight paths travel in general will be easier even if you don't have a flying mount in Azeroth. I was just thinking that you will be required to visit more areas with the new changes, meaning you'll be in the air a bit more than before.

I think you are correct. With leveling changed (faster, requiring less quests per zone) and the addition of new zones.

I think they are about equal in difficulty... might even be easier now. You can see what zone you can find the quests in heh. Before it was like a scavenger hunt from hell for the last couple.

I absolutely love how they broke it down into managable chunks for us. I briefly attempted the Loremaster achievement before the Shattering and got discouraged by the large amount of quests in Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. Now I can do it zone by zone and actually feel like I'm making progress.
