Subject: TCU to the Big East in 2012!
TCU has decided to go join the Big East. Personally I would love for KU to get on the phone with the Big East and let them know that if they are determined to add a few more schools to get to 12 football programs count us in. It's only a matter of time until the Big 12 falls apart and quite frankly I do not feel the Big 12 is the best fit for KU, the Big East would be perfect. Other than TCU there isnt a football program that scares anyone in that conference, so a mediocre program could really benefit in that conference, and annual basketball matchups with Syracuse, UConn, Gtown, Marquette, Villanova, that sounds wonderful.

I still think that the basketball schools of the big east will break off (or be shoved out) into their own 8-9 team league and the big east will come after Mizzou, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Baylor, Memphis, or something like that. The big east divided into two halves East/West makes sense.

TCU, Kansas, Mizzou, K State, Louisville, Cincinnati
Rutgers, Pittsburgh, U Conn, West Virginia, Syracuse, South Florida

I'm still not sure why South Florida is in there but atm they make as much sense as TCU geographically. Could still have Villanova move to Division I and should this start happening, might lose a couple teams to Big 10.. who knows.

Yeah I can definitely see some of the non football schools getting pushed out of the conference. Getting to 12 football schools is probably going to push the number of schools in the conference to twenty, and that is just too many. South Florida is way out of place in the Big East, if they expand more to the midwest, I could see them pushing South Florida out, but really in this time period region doesn't really matter much. The Pac 10 was going to offer the Texas schools membership, and the Big 10 also wanted Texas, both of those are way outside of their regions. Today its about competitive balance more than it is about region.

Missouri better hope there's a Big East invite somewhere in the future, because the clock is ticking. How long until Texas leaves them hanging?

I'm not worried about Missouri in the slightest as far as conference realignment.

Missouri borders the Big 10, Big East, and SEC geographically. Not only that, but they are one of only 3 schools that have both football and basketball ranked in the top 25 atm. Additionally, while our football program is not a traditional power in any form, it has been one of the most successful over the last 5 years and has a .545 winning percent all time (Found that out dealing with Iowa fans over the upcoming bowl - Iowa only has a .525 win %). They are one of only 17 schools in the country that break even or turn a profit on their athletics. They have 2 huge TV markets and 7+ million people.

IF Texas leaving the conference spawns conference armageddon - Missouri will land in the SEC or Big 10. I like the Big East idea myself though because it would keep the KU/MU rivalry while its unlikely they would land in the same conference otherwise.

But you are right. The clock is ticking.

I am betting on less than 2 years but frankly will probably be this coming April when they start the TV negotiations and find out that only Texas will make any substantial more money from the deals...

My thought process in this whole Big East battle is this: Why wait for Texas to make the first move? I think KU-KSU-MU need to get together and make a pact and a move to Big East. We all know the Texas schools are going to screw us over as soon as a better opportunity arrives, why sit around and wait. The Big east needs three more football programs to get to 12, why not make it happen right now. The Big East can then move the basketball only schools off into a conference of its own, and we will have our new Big East BCS conference, which I think would benefit all schools involved.

I don't think that Texas will be the one to make the first move. There exists the possibility that Auburn might lose it's accreditation thanks to the whole Cam recruitment thing, this will leave the SEC down a team. Texas A&M was rumored to be very close to jumping ship this past summer, and would likely be the team grabbed by the SEC, causing Texas to make a move to another conference (either the Big Ten, or PAC 1X..), and thus killing the Big IIX.

I think that Texas is setting itself up to be an independent, not go to another conference.

But I do think that Texas A&M will fire the first shot and try to get into the SEC once they find out they won't be getting such huge checks (and that Texas will).
