All of the content they added was worthless crap but the page change buff is extremely noticeable.

It went from a fraction of a second to instant.

I actually don't like the change because the transition is very pronounced now and it distracts my eyes whereas the old page change was a gentle phase while I moved my eyes from the bottom of the page to the top anyways.

It syncs across multiple devices or something and you can organize your crap in to 'shelves'.

I have to concur on their claims of most epic update of the universe.

i wouldn't mind that since the sorting for ebooks you add manually has always been crap. even sorting by author was completely random before.

I always go in to Stanza with any new ebook file and alter the title and author to fit what filing I want.

i use calibre to do that. it still seems to sort them all willy nilly. i also hate how the text doesn't wrap on titles so everything telling me where in the series the book falls gets cut off. so annoying. how hard is text wraping or font shrinking. honestly.

The shelves are awesome btw. Not sure if you've tried them or not, but they make going through my 100+ book library a whole lot easier. Once you take the time to set them up you can cross reference items as well; I have Sherlock Holmes in the Classic shelf and in the Mystery shelf and Asimov Sci-fi magazine in periodicals and sci-fi to list a few examples. It's incredibly easy to set up, just a few button clicks. I'd say it's far far far far easier than using a 3rd party program like Stanza to edit the title and author to make your list more manageable.

The shelves + the faster page turning makes this a damn good update. Not sure why you don't like the shelves to be honest.

The font shrinking is easy, the text wrapping is fairly complicated if you have to code it from scratch...which I have before. You have to truncate a string, move the extra to the next line and create a new string, then concatenate anything that comes after that to that string. Then repeat at the next line.

yes but how hard is it if you've got the power to build an ebook reader? not very.

I wasn't aware that publishing hardware made coding easier. Silly me.

*edit* That's also not to mention limitations that are not known on the front end, of which there are always tons.
*edit2* In this case I tend to agree though. For a title listing it would be fairly simple. My experience was in coding an actual text editor and making it work with multiple programming language highlighting and indenting schemes.

It isn't that I dislike the shelves so much as I find them superfluous.

I readily acknowledge that for others they are a great thing, but for me they are pointless. I never keep more than a dozen books on the Nook at once and I only keep that many when I am reading a series or in case I finish a book away from home, I want options on what to read next.

I take everything off the Nook and store it on my computer once I read it, I don't like clutter.

I don't hate this update and I wouldn't go around writing poor reviews for it, but for me it added nothing of merit; something I found ironic considering how much they tooted this updates horn.

Page turning is super fast now, and I rather like the new speed. The syncing across devices actually works well now, so that's a bonus for me, and I have yet to mess around with the shelves yet.

I actually did that for a while and realized that it was a lot of extra work for no real reason, other than organization was kind of a pain. The thing holds a crap ton of books and, in my opinion, the only reason to keep books to a minimum is gone now that they've added shelves. If I wanted to I could literally reference books by author, genre, and 1 through 5 stars, or even cover color all at the same time. And, like music collections (but easier since most people don't have 50,000 ebooks), once you have everything you already own shelved, it's easy to keep up with what you add.

If you're programming in assambly textwrapping is a pain, but if you're using any old high-level language, its more or less effortless.

My thought is that it's a design issue.
