Anyone playing? I figured I'd give it a whirl again since it's free, and I need something to hold me over till a newer and more refreshing MMO comes out.

Yeah, honestly I dont know if anyone else is anymore. I've heard of two people playing it but havent seen them online yet. I also looked across forums for the older Gawaine guilds and nothing.

What is everyone playing now-a-days?

I'm playing DC Universe Beta. If I could get a Scenario to pop I'd let you know how the PvP is.

On the PC I've been playing WoW with my wife, casual gaming ftw.

On the Xbox: RB3, Dance Central, Halo:Reach, and a little elf told me I was going to get AC:B for Xmas which I'm excited for.

Edit: Almost forgot! NBA Jam on the Wii, all sorts of nostalgia there.

PS3 is mostly a blu-ray player & media streamer nowadays though. tongue

AC:B? I'm playing Black Op's and Halo Reach on Xbox.

Have you guys seen this game yet, RIFT ? It's still in beta, but looks very promising!

I'm still subscribed to DAOC, but I play it less and less. It's just not a game that's well suited to how I want to play games these days: for 30 minutes to an hour at a time. With new games like Guild Wars 2, The Old Republic, and Rift coming out next year though, I prefer to keep subscribing to Dark Age rather than invest my time playing some other older game that I'll just put aside in a few months.

I fought playing WoW for a long time, and if it wasn't for my wife I probably would not have played at all. But that said, I've been super impressed by Blizzard and what they've done to the game in the last year.

* You don't have to form dungeon groups anymore, you hit a button to queue for a dungeon (selected or random) and it gives you a perfectly made group - 1 healer 1 tank 3 dps. I don't really like questing, so I leveled a Pally 1-80 solely through the dungeon finder. 1-70 I tanked, 70-80 I healed. Now 80-85 I'm staying in my healing spec (which is actually a good questing spec if you hit the few dps talents in the trees.
* They recreated almost the entire old world, completely changed every single class, and re-made the talent trees. The classes now feel like they were designed in 2010 and not 2000/EQ-era, and the old world quests (1-60) are not so archaic.
* They took every "essential" addon and built it into their standard UI. IE QuestHelper / Raid Frames. At some point (or for aesthetics) you'll want addons but you don't need them the way you did before.

This xpack adds rated battlegrounds for guilds on the pvp side, and obviously tons of raiding content on the pve side. I'll probably dabble in a little of both.

Although, the bottom line that I'm sure you wouldn't like still stands, WoW is a gear-grind. Even if the entry point to gearing for pvp or raiding is pretty quick it's still there. In WoTLK my mage went from 80 to raiding-ready in about 1.5 weeks, including getting professions up to 450.

As you correctly guess, I'm not interested in going through a massive gear grind on an older game that I'm just playing to pass the time until something new comes out. I actually had some fun playing my scout in a ridiculous 3 way zerg clusterfrak in Breifine on Ywain last night, so I'll be dabbling with DAOC for a while longer.

A year or two ago I'd be playing DAOC for a month or so then droping it for 2/3 months... that gap is sitting about 6 months now and I may not come back until a 10 year anniversary or something.

If I was still in the US I'd probably still be playing it, but since I left the US about 2 months before ToA came out (mid 2003) it is really that long since I've played the game as I like to remember it.

Try playing as a solo class on Gawaine in 2004 when there were 300 players online primetime, and you could only play what was early afternoon for you guys.

Agreed - i started a new account and went from 1-60 23 hours played time. thats really not bad. I'm sitting at 70 right now, and the xp is coming fast. The game really is completely different than it used to be. It almost feels like they went out and made WoW 2, kept alot the same, change ALOT, and kept their current customer base while bringing others back.. brilliant really.

Yeah, with the redo of the old world and redesign of every class in the game, it does feel like v2.
