Blizzard updated their new community site with news of the next phase of the elemental invasion

Little progress has been made toward mending Azeroth's dire condition. Thrall has nonetheless continued forging ahead in search of answers. Most recently, he journeyed to his ancestors' lands in Nagrand on the shattered world of Outland. At the fabled Throne of the Elements, he has met with other wise shaman, including the venerable dwarf Gavan Grayfeather, hoping to glean even the smallest shred of insight that could help him save Azeroth from ruin.

Meanwhile, Twilight's Hammer cultists have been caught infiltrating Orgrimmar and Stormwind City, sparking panic and suspicion among the two great cities' inhabitants. Although the cult's earlier bid to wreak havoc on these capitals had failed, this new development has raised fears that the Twilight's Hammer is poised to launch another, far more devastating attack.

The events leading up to Cataclysm are underway and a great disturbance of the elements has erupted. Don?t miss out on the all-new quests featured during this one-time-only series of events.

This whole xpac has B-team written all over it.

So far I'm not impressed, but I'm going to wait it out before passing judgment. They did say they plan to "wow us".

There just isn't enough. I recently read 'The Shattering' and I can't help but think to myself - why the hell isn't this IG? With Phasing being so heavily utilized in Cata one would think that it wouldn't be all that difficult to put this stuff in. The stuff currently IG is just too light on lore, too light on actual 'stuff to do'.

This.

I have to give Blizz credit though for finding another carrot for players to chase in the last couple of weeks.

Same but I'm not much of a holiday/event person. I've done probably 10 or less holiday quests across 10 80's, 10 more horde toons, and various others, not counting dailies since I'll do horseman and other similar mount run type punishments.
This whole xpac has B-team written all over it.
I'm not sure that's what I'd call it. This expansion is very odd to me in that WoW is very successful and still growing and they decided to butcher and redesign a LOT of the game for no particular reason. There was no player outcry. There was no mass exodus. Their reasoning for huge game changes is always "we feel that X should be more like Y" out of nowhere - who is this "we" and how did these crackheads get the green light to massacre WoW?

I keep waiting for things to get rolling too. Unless they have a bunch of stuff planned that wasn't on the PTR (which could be entertaining in much different ways) then I'm afraid this is going to be a big let-down. Isn't the only stuff left the part where level 83 elementals run thru cap cities, we free the townspeople and then we queue up for a loot pinata boss? (Rinse repeat every few hours)

Maybe the last patch right before cata is where they're putting the effort in?

I've found all the "events" to be pretty boring and this goes back to release and the little beta events they had back then.

I don't really care anyways. This is a one shot event and I would rather they spend the resources on better future expansion updates than this.

WoW is the very definition of mainstream. It's the "politically correct" MMO - they really don't want to offend or upset anyone if they can help it. People looking for something that really shakes things up for any substantial length of time are looking in the wrong place, IMHO.

In what way? Unless they put in new stuff from the PTR, there is, and I could be mistaken:

No siege of TB
No subsequent retaking of TB
No Mak'gora between Cairne and Garrosh
No Magni turning to Diamond
No SI:7 infiltrating Ironforge with Varian

The book quite literally ends with the Shattering, which we all know is going to be: Logout, maintenance, Login, CATACLYSM!!!

Yeah, I have been doing these breadcrumb quests and had a WTF moment as well... flying out to Nagrand only to have the quest just....end.

I turn it in, no new quest, nothing. He said something like walk around Nagrand and see if anything is up. I did a few laps and saw nothing. Logged.

Is it 12/7 yet?

I for one am getting pretty tired of the slow ramp up to the event. Doing two quests that end abruptly every week or so makes the whole thing feel pretty half assed. At this rate, by the time things are going full tilt I'm already going to be over it.

So far all I've seen are blue posts and quest text that say that something cool is going on but I don't see anything in the game to reflect that. The longer they string me along the more amazing this is going to need to be to "wow" me and at this point that's going to be a pretty tall order.

Ok, let us evaluate this:

If Deathwing came out and started flying around and burning everything in the zone, that wouldn't be a mind blowing event by your standards?

Ok.

Nope since it's a major event leading to the xpac I would hope it was something more than a dragon flying around spitting fire.

plenty of other games haev done random stuff like that just for the hell of it.

Actually have to agree with this. We already KNOW Deathwing will fly around killing everyone. We wont be able to do anything about it and will die. Not really epic IMO.

I found the lore in Nagrand to be interesting. I hung around long enough after turning in the quest to see what Thrall had to say about him being there. Very interesting approach Blizzard is taking to the new warchief situation.

I think this is what most are missing. There's no quest that says "Hey hang around and read what the NPC's have to say". I agree that the route they're taking it is intriguing to say the least.

Really?

I don't get what's so great about this book. The first page alone made my editor's eyes bleed with blue pencil.

The prologue should've been called Chapter Cliché.

Anyway, I'm doing the event, but yeah . . . could be better.

Anyone else thinking of of Asheron's Call when some GM's or Devs would log on Asheron and Bael'Zharon to fight in the middle of cities? Of course they only had like 7 servers to do this on...Where blizz has a gazillion to cover...

I dont have the same complaints that most of you have...Im actually enjoying the build-up that they are giving us. The progressive quests...up to the elemental attacks on the cities last night. I like where its going, and have enjoyed how its ramping up.

Nope.

My sub runs in 2 days, after which I will wait until after the first of the year or so(at least) to buy Cata and resub.

I like giving it at least a month for the smoke to clear...and avoiding the BS "transition events" is just a pleasant by-product of that.
