Wow I should have realized before creating this that there were WAY more than the number of poll selections we're allowed.

My personal favorite is Gnomeregan. I just love the way it's put together and the story behind it.

Stratholme. I have always been very intersted in the "Scourge" story in WoW. Following the quest line from Sorrow Hill in WPL with the Redpath line and all the other stuff from LHC in EPL really tells a great story. To me, Stratholme was always a really important part of that storyline.

Scholomance. Was always a nice challenging instance and a great way to see people rage when the Pally helmet didn't drop.

I thought it was laid out well, had nice bosses and good loot drops. I also liked the challenge it presented for the Paladin epic mount.

BRD

No other instance has the depth of play; Intricacies of quest lines that BRD does. The way the instance weaves together is amazing.

I assume that probably 99% of the population base hasn't seen the whole instance and done all the quests available in there.

This is my order:
Lower Black Rock Mountain:
Loved the problem solving in here and non-linearity and how it allowed you to rise above the other people by knowing where to go in here and what to do.

Upper Black Rock Mountain:
Same as above though it is much more linear.

Sunken Temple:
I like the top area where you have to kill certain mobs to open certain areas. Its cool.

Deadmines:
Its very linear, but I always felt it was very epic. The first time you see the pirate ship you sh** your pants.

thinking Thinking about all of these old dungeons sure reminds me of how well done they were, compared to what we have now.

Today it's all about how quickly you can get through one and skipping bosses that are off the main path. In the old ones you more or less had to do the little bosses to open the path/spawn the later ones. Rushing through was an awesome way to get your group wiped at almost any stretch in the dungeon could wipe you. (yea yea I know, News Flash!)

Of those choices, I went with SM. However, I am with the Strath/Scholo lot. Some of those 60 dungeons that we used to raid, lol, were so epic. I really wished they had gotten updated to level 80 for WoTLK, being all about the scourge. Just like BRD, UBRS, LBRS should be 85ified for Cata.

i did ubrs like a million times on my shaman to try to get felstriker. rogues would get so pissed off at me when i announced my intention to roll. was hilarious. i enjoyed that dungeon a lot, although lbrs was more frustrating since it was so big.

i also like the dungeons that used to never be popular like razorfen as an alliance, or sunken temple, etc. its been sort of fun doing those ones with dungeonfinder recently, when u dont get stuck with retards (rare).

I loved BRD. It gave great experience at a level range where back in the day, you could end up grinding out a few levels in Winterspring if you weren't careful. Loved the vault, bar, torches, etc, but Jail Break! still makes me cry at times though. UBRS was pretty decent too.

Speaking of crying, ST, Scholo and Live Strat still make me sad from all the pointless trash in those instances. LBRS, a little too because the only redeeming quality of that wing was to get keyed (so you didn't always have to find a friend to open the door) to do the fun UBRS.

Having said all that, Dire Maul was by far the most well designed and best set of vanilla dungeons in the game. I'm not sure I was really impressed by another instance until I got to the 3 TK 5-mans, which along with Kara, was probably the high point of WoW for me. Well, maybe SL ... but that's more personal preference. I still enjoy yelling TIME FOR FUN! every now and then.

This.

Deadmines is an old fav, but happy memories from 15-man days with just 8 of us top everything.

Even wiping was fun....dying trying! laugh

edit: do you know, the best part was the fact that the game mechanics and boss mob (tricks et al) were still fresh then and we weren't burnt out from the grind of been there, seen that. I miss that.

I loved how everyone would s**t a brick during a pull when an assassin would pop out halfway through and wipe half of the group in quick order.

It took skill to handle pulling that last room and a solid hunter for kiting on the last boss. grin

10-man UBRS when they changed it from 15 was cool too.

I often played a hunter so would end up kiting Drak back to The Beasts room happy

Plus being one of the few people that actually put the work into getting the key was helpful. I was a hunter, after all.

That was a very cool sword. I had a friend that invested a lot time to get it and it was totally worth it, especially on a gnomish warrior. Of course, everything looked awesome on a gnomish warrior in vanilla.

My main is a lock, so I remember the summonable boss in West quite fondly. That was a fun event that I don't think a lot of people ever saw.

Stealth runs through Dire Maul North is largely what kept my wife and I playing this game. While on our druid/rogue combo, someone messaged me and asked if I'd be interested in trying a stealth run. We chatted a bit, found out they, too, were a married couple playing a druid/rogue combo... and over the next few months we became great friends. 4-manned all the 5 man content in the game, and had a lot of fun figuring out what we could and couldn't skip with the all stealther group.

Alas, they have a bunch of kids now and too many responsibilities to play, something we lament regularly. But Dire Maul will always be special for that reason. And, really, Dire Maul North stealth runs were some of the funnest 5-man content ever made in the game.

Yeah, they were/still are my favorite class, probably always will be. Ranged + Pet, always loved classes like that. I haven't played one in ages though.

That will be what I am going to do in Cataclysm, start playing again, and playing a Hunter. Hopefully there's a new server I can roll on grin

There's always been a lot of Hunters, and almost none of them any good at playing them.

I can remember kiting Phantim to Org to watch him kill tonnes of people. Good times. I got threatened with a ban after doing that 5+ times. Blizzard, killing fun since 2004!

Indeed, you needed a hunter who could agro a offtank mob and freeze him in the room before the Beast. Blackrock Mountain in general was great. Scholomance was actually quite difficult when it launched and felt like an accomplishment when you cleared it. I think Zul Farrak doesn't get enough credit. Great instance for that point in the levelling grind.

ZF was cool and had a couple of fun events in it. I agree with the sentiment that it was an excellent diversion from outdoor leveling during the level range where you pick up the quests for it.

ZF also incorporated part of the tablets quest chain into it too, right? I remember having to run it a few times and I think that was the reason why.

My alt 80 is a druid, so I've been there and done that too. It's nice to find a good rogue to play with. Like hunters, competent rogues are few and far between, but can be awesome in the hands of the right person and fun to play with.

Deadmines and SFK.

I remember doing part of the Paladin weapon quest in SFK as Alliance. My Verigan's Fist is still in the bank.

Just getting over there was a trek in those early days.

Mithan mentioned Sunken Temple, for some reason, that one reminds me of AC1, one of those Scalvus dungeons, lol.

Out of the higher level ones, definitely BRD hands down.
