Subject: Memory Leak
Hello All,

I have some more testing to do, but thought the community might want to help to speed things along so here we go:

My acclient has been crashing from lack of memory, the error report points to a decal .dll and looking at the task manager shows acclient using 1.5GB of mem (I'm sorry but I didn't think to grab the exact error text, I will the next time it happens); I believe it to be a memory leak in a plugin. So far I have disabled Alinco 3 and it appears to go away, but it could just be taking longer (combination of plugins?). It is also accompanied by graphical anomalies in game, i.e. white ground textures. I am running Windows 7 64-bit, but my roommate gets this error on XP 32-bit (SP3), as well. We both use V-Tank and Alinco 3. Has anyone else experienced this? Have you tried disabling Alinco 3 or another plugin to resolve it? I've managed to work out most of the quirks in my settings between the two and would hate to have to drop one now...lol. If we can, I'd like to give the developers an idea on where to look to resolve the issue, having a programming degree myself it would at least be educational for them for future apps.

Let me know if you have any questions or have any additional input.

Cheers! =)

The memory leaks have been happening for years. It's part decal, part plugin related.

With that said, Alinco caused me to crash quite a bit. So I learned how to use vtanks native looting program and have been crash free ever since.

I personaly never crash but if alinco is causing it I think it are the huds in it.
you can start looking there wink

The virindi viewservice is nice and looks efficient, I did look into it how to use it a while ago
but I could not figure it out how to use.

I don't use VT anymore I haven't used it in a long time so the loot plugin/connector support is limited.
I know there are some issues with it and to make it work better requires alot of work.
(Alinco and VT both works with seperate objects and I think it is possible that sometimes vt recieves
the item info first while alinco doesn't know the object yet)

It may not be related per say, but in Alinco 1.0.1.9 when I open Alinco 3 my framerate drops pretty massively (as measured by @framerate in the client). I have not had a chance to try the .10 version (yet) and I can get examples (numbers) if needed/desired. I'm running a fairly decent system AMD X6 1024, 8 gigs of ram, nvidia 240 gt with a gig of video memory all on win 7 pro, thus I don't believe it is my system. Once I close the Alinco 1.0.1.9 window the framerate returns to normal....

Yes it was always that way (that the framerate drops with a decal view open)
My nvidia gts 250 framerate drops down to 20 or even less while on an other pc with a cheaper
ati card stays more stable at 40.

As I only play in windowed mode I was thinking about making a more advanced rule editor
as windows application somewhat like the old banditsight/
I also worked a bit on a separate inventory browser http://www.xs4all.nl/~rqs/acinventory.png

Memory leaks for years? How programatically unethical! Slackers...;)

I did another test last night, it's not just Alinco. Hard to run AC for extended periods without tank though...lol. I'll try this weekend after I load up on some coffee and mountain dew to see if Decal iteslf has the leak. Haven't pulled a manual all nighter in a long time though...lol.

Without Alinco loaded my macro has run for over 2 days without crashing. And that is 2 clients running on the same machine. Virindi had made a change to decal a few months back that was supposed to have helped with the memory leak in it.
