End of October AMC is coming out with a new series: "The Walking Dead". Just letting the zombie fans out there know about this.

Also, it's a graphic novel series as well. Have not read it, but if I get my hands on it I will.

My wife and I don't watch the horror/zombie crap.  We find it cheesy and stupid.  But...We really liked this.  We gave it a shot because the DVR was empty and we needed something to watch.  It was very good.  Not cheesy.  Well acted, well done.  We've got the DVR set to record the rest of the season.

Wow, only 6 episodes? I'll bet they come up with more if the ratings are high.

I liked it for the most part. I had two gripes though, one was that one guy's zombified wife didn't look very zombie-like (I guess to make her more identifiable). And the second nitpick was when he was in Atlanta, and there was no signs of life at all. Then suddenly he walks by a little more, turns a corner and "Zomg zombie horde!". He must've triggered the zombie horde event as he turned the corner to that block.

The zombie in the park was done extremely well though. I loved how she didn't have any legs aside from a small leg bone that tried pointlessly to propel her along the grass.

From what I understand this season is 6 episodes at an hour and a halfish long. Then it is intended to be signed on for season two with 12 or 16 episodes (I forget which) at an hour long.

If they stick to the comic (which they've already strayed far away from rolling_eyes ), some interesting things should happen soon enough. The two hick brothers don't exist in the comics. The wife beater character does iirc, but not as a wife beater.

The comic is ALL sorts of f**ked up.

Hopefully that didn't spoil anything.

I loved the latest episode. Not just the zombie munching, but the conflict between the two groups in the city over the weapons. You think it's going to lead to one cliche situation, then something different happens. Still sorta cliched, but at least different and unexpected.

I'm starting to like Merle's brother, Daryl. He acts like a total jerk, then he gets some realistic character changes after the plan for the guns goes bad. I actually wouldn't of minded beating up that skinny kid myself when I saw all that stuff going on, and the gangstas take Glenn. I bet he's going to get killed by Merle, who justifiably felt abandoned and left behind on top of the building. And he'll probably die saving T-dog, or possibly Glenn.

Well, I figure that's because they needed to have some new twists and characters. Or else it'll be the same exact thing as the comic, and they didn't necessarily just want to recreate the same thing. But they do this all the time in movies and tv shows that are based on preexisting material, like with Watchmen (the twist at the end, which I feel was better in the comic), or LOTR: The Two Towers, such as the elves coming to protect Helm's Deep. I guess as long as they stay true to the spirit of the characters and the overall plot, I'll tolerate it.

I wouldn't trust a lonely scientist that has been held up in a compound, and especially when he was telling the monitor to go away, as if the samples were not zombie, but human instead. And I Really like Andrea(The older blonde sister too), so I am looking forward to the last episode. It went by really fast, 12 episode wont be much longer either. I am a bit disappointed that the last episode was really the only zombie filled one for this season.

So now we have two conflicting sources. Which is correct?

The second source has a sensationalist feel to it so I'd be more inclined to believe that the writers weren't all fired but instead left for their own reasons, or perhaps just one was fired and someone thought it would sound better to say they all got fired.

And yes it's a shame you have to support your claim with proof. Poor baby. sad

So, final episode, very few zombies again, but still entertained me lol. It seemed like not much happened though, which kind of sucks, and now we have to wait a few months before we can see any followups to it.

I have to admit, I loved the beginning, which helps to explain that other cop's motives a little. But man I wish there were more zombies in it.

I liked how they flashed back some in the final episode. It helps add depth to the characters. With Shane you can kind of get an idea of the conflict he went through when leaving Rick behind. I felt like the first 5 episodes could have been better if they flashed back to short scenes on how the survivors got to where they were. It's one thing to hear a character explain how they watched their family get eaten and a whole different thing to see it. I think everyone would have cared a whole lot more about Jim had they flashed back to his escape during the beginning of the outbreak.

I have to agree with you, Boone. After seeing a flashback to those moments in time, it definitely added something that I didn't realize the show was missing and made me like it that much more.

Lets hope season 2 takes off like that. Although, sadly, some of the stories are gone for good.

Also, what do you think happened to the guy and his son from the first 2 episodes?

I was thinking that his inability to kill his zombied wife drew too much attention and if he and his son didn't run for it, they would have been overwhelmed...

You know, I was wondering what happened to that guy from the first episode and the kid. I kept thinking that maybe they made it to the CDC after all, but no, instead they just show them once, then they vanish for the rest of the season. I haven't read the comic (although I may now), but from what I've been hearing others say, they've already deviated somewhat from the comic (mostly with adding new people and certain characters not dying yet), so who knows what might happen. My guess is that they did make it to a human settlement, and will probably be horribly killed in a later episode because they had the unfortunate event of being given a backstory and character development lol. When a random person dies, it's "meh, whatever". But when someone we've come to know a little gets killed, it's all "ZOMG I can't believe they died, I thought they were going to make it!"

Needless to say, I'm still going to watch it. I just hope we get some more zombie action. The first episode really teased us with the huge horde, then at best we only see maybe 10-15 zombies who are all spaced far apart, yet they act as if its the end of the world lol.

I liked their explanation of what happens to a person who's infected though in that last episode. Even though they don't exactly mention what causes it, I loved how the guy explained how the part of your brain that identifies you as "you" dies, and the part that comes back is little more than motor functions and very basic instincts.

So far of what I've read of the comics, the father and son at the beginning don't make an appearance ever again.

They've deviated from the comics plot quite a bit. I was expecting the season to end at a pretty crucial spot in the comic, but it seems they've been dancing around this moment for the last two episodes. I'm just assuming they didn't want to get into this moment during the original filming because of no guarantee on a second season at the time.

The story overall focuses strongly on the characters within in it and the zombies are more of the motivating factor in the character progressions. Of course when the zombies show up on occasion, expect them all to be epic. grin

I highly recommend reading the comic if you can't wait for the next season. It's all sorts of effed up and I'm not even sure AMC will be willing to touch on half of those matters.

peace

As has been mentioned the show has deviated from the comic somewhat, but still follows the basic time line. As for the Father and son here is what happens in the comic (potential spoiler):

They reappear much later after the band of survivors goes through a ton of events, but the son is now a zombie which the dad is feeding.

I don't know. The show has been a lot more graphic and gritty than I expected it to be. They may use some of the more extreme stuff that happens. There is no way they leave the Governor out as he is one of the most notorious comic book villains ever and he is what drives some of the more effed up stuff that happens.

Ohh and want to know what the CDC doctor whispered in Rick's ear at the end? Most likely answer:

His wife is pregnant.

If you need some Zombie filler in between the next season I highly recommend World war Z by Max Brooks, which is also slated to be released as a movie in 2012.

BOONE!!! That spoiler you put about the whispering!!! that's exactly what I expected to happen when that event took place... oh the drama that will occur.

anyway, thanks for the comic portion of the father/son, I don't suppose it said how it came to be? But I understand why he would be doing that, although it's completely insane and dangerous.

Cheers everyone!

I love the replies and speculations. grin

No they never reveal how it came about. The comic leaves a lot of filler out and character development out leaving it up to the imagination, but that's mainly because it a comic and you can only fit so much dialogue in.

Found an interesting link from another site that discusses some stuff that would've been awesome in the series. Do you agree with them or not? Some spoilers if you haven't read the comic, but eh, still interesting.
