When I try to launch a second client, rargg error! "There is a client already running on this machine" - with or without Decal running.

Disabled UAC.
Have ACDCClient.exe properties set to run as Administrator
Have ACDCClient.exe properties set to run in XP sp2 compatibility mode
All plugins installed into C:\Games\
AC installed into C:\Games\Asheron's Call\
Seondary and Tertiary into C:\Games\Asheron's Call\2\ and \3\ respectively.
And I've hit "Find Path" about 14 kerbjillion times.

Yay! I finally get to post my first export! grin

the ONLY thing i know for sure is that the installation order, for some reason really matters.

IE, install ac and get it running. Install decal and ensure it is running. finally install AC-DC and get it running.

i messed up and go ac-dc installed prior to something and it never worked on the win7 machine till I un-installed and reinstalled it after AC & decal were working.

Now the only problem i have is occassionally the ac-dc filter thingie gets unchecked. recheck it and all works.

I also went to the trouble to ensure that the launcher files are also set to run as admin and xp compat mode 2 (just to be save since they are also in a c:\games setup like yours).

Was installed in that order - AC, Decal, all plugs, then ACDC. Just sacrificed a pretty damn good chicken sandwich, so may reinstall anyways. Or maybe I should sacrifice a beer, too. mmm. Boddington's.

Just set the launcher to sp2/admin, nothin :/ That Core Filter does like to uncheck itself. At least you're not alone happy

Additionally, when I -do- log in to that one account with ACDC/Decal running, no plugins show. Launching from default AC launcher, all plugs are fine.

You may have copied the files, but did you set up the paths within ACDC?

I believe therein may lie the problem. While the paths are showing in ACDualClient.ini:

[General]
HideOnStart=0
MinOnLogin=0
AutoPort=1
StartDecal=0
SetupType=0
ShowSplash=1
WarnOnPath=1
Polling=1
UseInjection=1
UseHook=1
LUServer=http://acdualclient.drakier.com/
Paths=3
ZoneIDs=3
Character=
LUMsg=Updated for Decal 3 Alpha 5. Also added Character Login. View Readme for more information.
[Paths]
1=C:\Games\Asheron's Call
2=C:\Games\Asheron's Call\2
3=C:\Games\Asheron's Call\3
[Accounts]
ZoneID1=**** (no, you can't have these happy )
ZonePass1=****
ZoneID2=****
ZonePass2=****
ZoneID3=****
ZonePass3=****
[1]
SavePassword=1
EnterWorld=6
ClientPort=9000
AutoDetect=0
[2]
EnterWorld=6
ClientPort=0
AutoDetect=0
[3]
EnterWorld=0
AutoDetect=0

It's acting as if it's not launching secondary instances from them. Gonna do a step-by-step here.

I removed (via CP and via my trusty delete key) the new folders, ACDualClient.ini, and ACDCclient.exe, then reinstalled using basic setup. When looking for AC's path, it looks for an .exe file - selected acclient.exe. It showed all the paths in ACDualClient.ini. Then I removed again, did another installed and selected aclauncher.exe (since it doesn't specify, why the poop not) - and no joy.

Tried an advanced install, and it won't let me change Copy To: directories, even if I create them manually, so I'm outta luck there.

So I eventually backed out to the basic install.

Now, what I read from the Drakier FAQ which addresses this issue:

Drakier's FAQ (quoted just to separate things) posted:
Q: There is a client already running on this machine. It is not possible to run two clients...

For 7.2.0
This error means your client.exe is not patched for dual logging. Go to Patch Client, select Dual Client (window mode is optional). Make sure your main AC directory is listed in the drop down menu. Then click Patch Client. After your main client is patched click Copy Files. Make sure Client.exe is checked. The Copy From: should be your main AC directory. The Copy To: should be your other directory. Now click Copy Files. Repeat the copy for every path in the drop down menu. Always keep the Copy From: the same. Only change the Copy To:

I have yet to meet a Patch Client.
Or see anywhere that "Window Mode" is an option.
Or a "Patch Client" option to click.
And I'm running 7.2.2

Now, granted, I've been at it since 6:30am, it's now 8:14am, so my eyes aren't necessarily in focus, but.

?

Is there something else I should be doing to set up the paths? Another oddity is that the ACDCClient.exe likes to show up in the main folder, and in 2\, but not 3\.

on Ac-dc's main screen to the left of find path button Patch Options Dual client check box

one other thing i know i did (not sure if before or after got it working) as go down to the /2 and /3 directories and set the launcher files to always run as admin in xp2 compat mode (properties).

Yeah, it's been set for Dual Client throughout. Just never seen a "Patch Client" option in ACDC happy

Hm. I'll try the admin/compat idea tomorrow, see what that does.

Reinstalled AC/Decal/ACDC - got eeeeverything set to run as Admin/xp2 compat (ACDCClient in ACDC path, and both main and copied folders of acclient, ACDCClient, aclauncher, even desktop shortcuts) - same error.

Shotgun approach, nada.

*thunk*

When you reinstalled ACDC did you get a message about enabling performance counters?

Yup? Went away after I disabled UAC. Was trying to hunt down a fix, but didn't see one?

You should get a message about the performance counters. Did you hit yes to enable them? Its possible your performance counters are corrupt, but I can't remember which file it is right now. I had to copy the file from another computer to this one to fix it.

Initially, yes. I'd have to hit it every time to enable them before I killed UAC.

Is this a file I can get off my XP drive? Installed Win7 on a new drive, so can still boot into the old setup. Or if it's Win7 specific, got a couple systems running it around here. Tried to Google out the info, can't find it.

1. Copied PerfStringBackup.ini out of C:\Windows\System32\ from a happy Win7 64 Ultimate box

2. Pasted to C:\Windows\System32\ folder - original around 845K, new copy around 640K. Looked promising.

3. Opened a command window into System32 folder and ran "lodctr /r:perfstringbackup.ini" from command line. Returned response. Also promising.

Rebooted. Tried ACDC, same thing. Changed all compats from XP/sp3 to Vista/sp2 and back to XP/sp2 - no change.

Nice find though, Saloben happy

I'm almost thinkin reformat at this point. So far, haven't installed anything but AC and drivers pretty much. Gonna hop in game for a few. Kill rabbits. They're the root cause of all things evil. Turbine made 'em orange for a very good reason. We just don't know it yet.

ya know, I've installed ACDC along with 5 clients and about 10 plugins multiple times, and I've never had as many problems as the people here. I follow the same steps every time, and have never had to disable UAC, or try to figure out what's not working right. The steps I follow are in the thread in the sticky.

So.. somewhere between steps 18 and 19 you forgot to copy the contents into a new directory..

Do that, and see if it helps...

oops.. guess you did that in 19.2.. I'll check it out when I can see with more than one eye open..

How I got mine to work on my Win 7-64 Ultimate was I installed Decal, ACDC and AC normally (ie didn't run the setup/installs as administrator) as you did, but I didn't have anything, including ACDC run as administrator or in any "Compatibility" mode and left UAC on.
There was a couple of times were I did get the error about a client already running (happened after a client/system crash) but hitting the Find Path button fixed it.

It has no problem finding the right path upon install. When I launch the second client for the first time, it updates the client, then tries to launch to the Character screen, and gives the error.

Try running "WhereAC" after launching the first path and see if it sets the path to the second path. My guess is that something isn't running right and it isn't properly detecting the first path as being "in-use".

You can also try manually clicking "Find Path" before logging into each account and see if it properly detects it then. Other than that, I don't know exactly what to tell you

Oo. Could very much be it. Reinstalled AC/Decal, verified, reinstalled ACDC. Tried, no dice. Then:

1. Launched ACDC
2. Disabled Auto-Port, manually set to 9002
3. Launched WhereAC - no path in use, Current Port: 9002
4. Clicked "Find Path"
5. Login 1, started clicking Get Path -- nothing until it got past launcher. Upon "Connected/Patching Done!" splash screen, WhereAC showed C:\Games\Asheron's Call

Groovy.

6. ACDC, switched to 2nd account - WhereAC shows Current Port: 9008, and C:\Games\Asheron's Call as in use.
7. Clicked "Find Path"
8. Login 2, started clicking Get Path -- goes to Asheron's Call Launcher, starts updating launcher. Update completes, it tries to log into server, and poof - "There is already a client running..." error message.

When I reinstall ACDC and I launch my 2nd account for the first time (after copying files within ACDC setup), "Asheron's Call Launcher" splash screen does do an update. So, the launcher's at least being run from the 2nd directory (I assume) - It creates ACDCClient.exe in the new directory once I try to login from the second account, but perhaps it's still trying to run acclient from the main directory.

It's some sort of progress, I'll take it happy tyty!

check how your launcher.ini file is set up in your AC Paths. They should NOT be hard-coded to the paths that AC will use. They should be using relative paths if I remember correctly.

your launcher.ini should say GameInstallDirectory=. under the [LAUNCHER] section. If it says anything else, set it to what I just posted. also the Application=acclient.exe

my launcher.ini starts with:

[LAUNCHER]
Application=acclient.exe
GameInstallDirectory=.
ExtraArgs=

Make sure yours says the same. It looks like ACDualClient is working properly and choosing the correct paths, but perhaps your AC Launcher isn't.

Both are set to:

[LAUNCHER]
Application=ACDCClient.exe
GameInstallDirectory=.
ExtraArgs=
DefaultUsername=JoeBobBiffingtonIIIesq (no, not really)
DefaultDataCenter=0
DefaultFauxDataCenter=0
LastAcceptedEulaVersion=3

[DataCenter_0]
name=Main
serveraddress=gls.ac1.turbine.com
serverport=5002

>>

Okay, so. Edited both launcher.ini files (in main and \2 directories) to Application=acclient.exe. Fired it back up, and same error. Shut down the game, and ACDC, edited .inis again while everything was down. Fired up ACDC, looked at the .inis, and both were back to ACDCClient.exe

Tried to get funky, edited the files while ACDC was running. Edited it. Launched first client. And both were ACDCClient again. Edited second launcher.ini to acclient.exe, fired it off, file stayed edited, but no joy :/

ACDC is supposed to edit the launcher.ini. That's how it hooks itself in to know what paths are hopefully being run (in addition to starting up Decal ingame if you have it set to run) That is perfectly normal.

Not entirely sure though why AC would be choosing the wrong path even though it seems that ACDualClient is choosing the right paths.

I'm getting the "Process performance counter is disabled" message. I run windows 7 64 bit.

I was able to get ACDC and decal running at the same time on this machine roughly two months ago. I came back to the game as I normally would and now it doesn't work. I get this error upon trying to log in with ACDC. Help

Losado (Alinco dev) put up an ACDC alternative that'll work for We-Who-Have-Issues - original post is here:

http://vnboards.ign.com/ac_utilities/b5432/113985751/r114326157/

Runs silky so far. Decal, three clients, most groovy!
