	I'm trying to get interested in the world cup, and admittedly know very little about the rules of the game. I'm getting over the clock running backwards. I can watch without being irritated by the vuvuzela noise. But watching today's US/Slovenia game, I have a question... Game's 90 minutes. Halftime at 45. Just before half, the TV scoreboard shows a +2, and they keep on playing for a little bit. Then at the end of the game, the backward clock is saying there's less than a minute until we get to 90, but there's a +3 on the score thing, and they keep playing until 94:15 or so, and then a ref blows a whistle & that means the game is over. 	its soccer, im in the same boat...but im totally not interested in it. the horns should be banned, and ESPN should stop slamming the damn sport in my face. cant wait for it to be over...but i do understand that the rest of the world its what they have and root for...its a national thing, unlike here where we have other sports that are far more interesting imo. -----signature----- April 26th..the day the future will be known...NFL draft. 	Because the clock is constantly running they add a few minutes to the length of each half to make up for stoppages of play, usually injuries. That is why the +3 was on there. They were saying they were going to go for three extra minutes. 	after watching a good chunk of the Italy/NZ game this morning I've come to a conclusion, or at least one of the conclusions on why soccer will never be big in the US flopping could the bleeping Italians flop any freaking more? if I may make a generalization about the American sport fan, they don't want to freaking see entire game outcomes differed because of some well timed bleeping flops IMO Italy should have lost that game 0-1, but because some dbag flops in the box they get a penalty kick and score if I were world dictator I'd pass a law saying you can never be called for a foul against Italy, maybe grow some balls and stop flopping over like a 5 year old girl and pretend writhing in agony now you may say "But Bern, in basketball people can flop too!" and I say "yes but a couple flopped basketball fouls don't have the repercussions of a soccer flop in the box that can decide the entire game's outcome" this is coming from someone who from 5 to 17 played in local soccer leagues, it was always really fun to play when you were playing someone honest, but those few teams I did play against that were huge floppers, it REALLY pisses you off -----signature----- R.I.P. I found a way to enjoy the flopping: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4ZY9sJe0rY&feature=player_embedded Meanwhile, back on topic - so that addition of time at the end of a half, that's some arbitrary amount of time, and nobody but an official knows when it's about to end? That seems crazy, especially in a huge tournament like this, that they wouldn't know... OK, we got 40 seconds, pull the goalie. Another thing I was wondering, and actually I heard it on Mike & Mike this morning (Gah, I hate those guys, but want sports radio) - the ref never has to explain what a foul is called for? In the US/Slovenia game, I really wanted to know WTF the call was. All I could get was the announcer's speculation, never did hear what it was supposed to be. Guess we never will.
