I work from home, so it gives me the chance to ACM quite often.

Sometimes my chars can go 8+ hours no problem.
Sometimes I can go for several 8 hour sessions in a row without issue.
Sometimes I go a few hours and a couple clients will crash at the same time.

Only the combat clients crash.

If the client is a vendor its fine.
If the client is just a follower, its fine.

My friend has a similar problem as well.

The only plugins we run are vtank and alinco.
It doesn't seem to matter what OS/PC we use.

I've talked to others who can macro a handful of clients endlessly without issue.

Anyone else have similar experiences?

How much memory do you have in your PC? Because of (Decal) memory leaks, each client can grow to >1GB in size after a long time of killing. Running out of memory always causes a client crash.

For the record, using just my bundle (with Decal views off), I NEVER have a client crash.

Hey VI, once again, AWESOME WORK!

On my main ring, its:
Windows 7 x64
Intel i7 960 @ 3.2Ghz
Asus Rampge II extreme
8GB RAM
Intel SSD Extreme HD (ROCKS!!!)
ATI 5870 gfx card

When you say decal views off, what is that? I am also using your bundle, but only load the vtank combat macro portion.

When you say you NEVER have a crash, what are your system and network specs? Whats the longest you usually macro for?

With 7 clients going, 3 of which are combat, windows says I have
4.8GB in use
2GB in standby
1.2GB free

I crash every so often though even with just 3 clients going.

I would almost swear it was net based. I used to macro with a different router and my clients, even on seperate computers, would often crash at the same exact time. Now, with a new router, things are much more stable.

My buddy just switched his router and now things are crashing much more often.

I could try upping the RAM, but I think trying a higher end Cisco router might be the ticket. Right now I'm using a mid-end Netgear router behind a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem.

fwiw, I'm a dev too, and have developed a few decal plugins. My day job is C#.

Thanks for the reply!

Hey VI, I've been monitoring the system actively, and with 3 clients in combat and 4 in non-combat, with the memory #'s close to what I've posted, 2 of the combat macros crashed at the same time, all other clients were unaffected.

I'll drop another 8GB in the system bringing it to 16GB and give that a try, but I'm not very optimistic.

Oh, I should also add, on the combat clients, looting and navigation are disabled in vtank.

Ahh, thats Decal with the leak? I've definately noticed that. Get crashes, but just kinda live with it. I tend to randomly just close my clients and start them up again when the mood hits to help.

I will randomly crash too. I purposely make sure to reset often to prevent this. I have 8 gigs in my system using Vista Ultimate. My friend with windows XP has the exact same problem. One interesting issue i do have, and it happens often enough not to be a coincidence, is that on both of my PCs, AC will crash at the exact same time. Once again two separate PCs and two separate accounts will both crash at the same time. This seems to happen when there is a lot of network activity going on.

I've seen that same exact thing, and only with my combat clients.. When using two PC's, one client on each PC, every so often both AC's will crash at the same exact time! haha, so weird.

It has to have something to do with actually killing things.

I have a tradebot running on an uber-ancient laptop (512M memory/shared video) and it's been up for like 4 days non-stop now. Doubt I could get a few hours out of it if I was actually doing something on it.

Little info to add to this thread....

I have been macroing a dagger character using a quest dagger that casts a bunch of spells when equipped, and a gear shield, which casts spells when equipped. I recently trained two hand for macroing purposes and am using a plain 350 wield weapon that has no spells on it.

While using the two hand weapon, my macro runs with no crashing. When I switch up and use dagger/shield it goes back to crashing.

Not sure if this is helpful or not.

Well, early in the week I put 24 gigs DDR3 in my box, and it seems to have made a difference.

I can have 6 combat clients going, can mess with my pack, run around, etc.. manually play, then ACM, sit at the LS and in the morning start up again w/o having to restart AC and everything seems to be good.

Windows 7 is really nice for showing your mem usage.

Take note though, even if it says you have a gig or so of "Standby" memory, its really the Free memory that you need for AC. Or at least, that's what my testing has shown. Previously with 8 gig in the system, and 2 gig of standby available, and free almost gone, AC would still crash.

Now I have 8gb in use, 2 in standby, and 14gig free. happy

To add though to this issue, talking with another friend of mine who also is pretty computer savvy, we both seem to think that the router you use can exaggerate the problem.

For me though, win7 x64 + 24gb = heaven. happy

Hunting in GY now, with 1 tradebot running, 4 healers, 1 imp'er, 1 fighter, 4 of the combat clients just crashed at the same time while 2 remained running. This was after prob 2 hours or so of run time.

Again, 24 gigs system RAM.

There's got to be a "magic" packet that AC/Decal simply doesn't like or can't handle properly. sad

Isn't Decal still technically a "beta" version seeing as how the decal devs never really got around to fixing the little glitches and the graphics hog thing? Remember them talking about Decal using an insane amount of video memory waaay back when TOD first came out and they released the new (current) version. Don't think they ever really got around to tweaking it.

My clients crash every day without fail. I too have the pleasure of working from home but see my client crash right in front of me. Sometimes after 1 hour, sometimes after 4... I have 12 GB of RAM on my machine and never reach that, not even close. The client has got to maybe 1.8 GB of RAM.

I have always had this issue. I have used probably 4 different machines over the years. all the same result... client crashing with decal running

Current machine is Windows 7 64bit

I do concur with others about combat vrs trade bot. my machine that has my tradebot does crash, but not nearly the same amount. It is running on an old laptop with 1gb of ram.

I run 4 clients or so at once, usually the leechers don't crash but the ones who kill do.

Sometimes I go all night,

when I do crash my screen just freezes up. Like it frame freezes.

Seems if I don't move the mouse, this sometimes doesn't happen. So I just turn on the monitor to see how it's doing and go back to bed. I can get back on and it's still working, and when I move the mouse it crashes.

Little more info on this.

I switched to using the vtank looter instead of Alinco and crashes have disappeared....so far.

Only plugins running are from the Virindi suite.

Two clients running on a laptop with 4G of memory. Both actively hunting. They have been up over 24 hours atm (I know, bad me....it's in the name of science)

Hopefully one day i can make myself learn how to use VTs looter. I will go recheck VTs wiki site. I rememeber before wishing there were more examples and explanations of what the example was showing.

I've had 2 crashes since getting rid of Alinco. And they both came after 30+ hours.

I can live with that.

Disabling alinco for me did not fix my problem.

Can you re-enable alinco and confirm that the crashes are back?

I still think its network related. I usually run 6 chars at the same time on one pc. When I crash, usually 3 or all 6 crash at the same time. With 24GB of ram on win7, memory is not the issue.

This is indeed one reason for a crash. I have recently isolated a cause of crashing related to Decal's network handling code. A fix is forthcoming.

This does not, however, change anything about the fact that you will crash if your client runs out of memory due to the memory leak.

That's awesome news VI. When that fix comes out I'll be sure to give you another donation!!! happy

Is the fix something that will work with all decal plugins or something each plugin must implement?

It is a Decal issue, not an issue with any particular plugin.

Does that mean there will be a new release of decal? Or will you just patch a particular dll?

AWESOME find btw on that bug. happy

Hey VI, not sure if anyone else is experiencing this, but ever since you made the change (which btw is awesome..im not crashing anymore) I have started having my spell bars, quick slots, and char settings wiped clean about every 10th log in. Only plugins I am running are yours, and hardly ever had this happen before the change you made.

I haven't had this happen, and I really don't see how it could have anything to do with this fix. Spellbars and quickslots getting wiped is an AC bug that happens from time to time, and has since the very beginning of the game (before Decal even).

You can always get http://decal.acasylum.com/spellbarsaver.php Spellbar Saver and save your spellbar template once you have it the way you like it. That way it makes it super easy/fast to reload if it gets wiped again. I did that after the 2nd time mine got wiped awhile back. I haven't really worried about having my spellbars wiped since I can restore quickly now.
