Subject: decal / go arrow - crashing under windows 7
I am able to install/update decal just fine. I run into issues after I've installed plugins, namely Go Arrow. I have tried a couple other plugins which ended up with the same result. If I double click decal from the system tray when any plugins are installed, the application crashes with the info below.

I am running Win 7 x64, UAC is disabled. AC and decal are installed in non-default directories, d:\apps\decal & d:\games\ac

I see you said that decal crashes when you click on if plugins are install, but what about when no plugins are installed? Do you get the same error? Also, you probably should uninstall that one plugin that is showing an error. It probably wouldn't cause your system to crash but if its not installed there is no reason to have it there.

I'm trying to thinking anything that could cause a crash of decal when you click on it and the only thing I can think of its trying to verify that it has the latest xml files. Do you have a firewall that could be blocking it?

this: Plugins, 1, <No Name>, <No Version>, {46BBF551-8578-4A59-B2FB-B5D9F4C719FA} can be a real issue

especially as:
[v1.0.3705] (1.0 Final) : Not Installed
[v1.1.4322] (1.1 Final) : Not Installed

if it's very old and needs 1/1.1 to operate it can cause all types of problems, same as if it's new like alinco3 and .net framework 3.5 isn't installed. BUT 3.5 is post decal release so if it is installed won't show up in the export.

I can only get that export when no plugins are installed. So no errors when no plugins are installed...

I have tried with .NET 1.1 framework installed with the same results. Go Arrow should only require .NET 2.0 to function as far as I know... I have verified that 2.0/3.0/3.5 are functioning.

FYI .. {46BBF551-8578-4A59-B2FB-B5D9F4C719FA} is the CLSID owned by GoArrow ..
Bad installation?

I've always removed it via the uninstaller. I am installing my plugins into d:\apps\decalplugins. Does it matter that this is outside the decal folder?

So after searching for the CLSID of go arrow in the registry, I found some an entry that had bogus permissions. Deleted the entire CLSID folder now I'm good to go. Thanks guys.

You need to remove the plugin from Decal in addition to running the uninstaller. You can do it in either order, but if the plugin installer was set up correctly (such as GoArrow's), then removing the plugin from Decal will automatically run its uninstaller. Some plugin uninstallers will remove the plugin from Decal, but that can cause the plugin's position on the Decal bar to be reset whenever a new version of the plugin is installed, which is why GoArrow doesn't do that.

However, none of that is related to your initial problem. happy
It looks like you don't have the Decal .NET Lifetime Service installed. That's an optional component (selected by default) in the Decal install. But if I remember correctly, it doesn't get installed if you don't have the .NET Framework installed before Decal. So the short answer is that you need to reinstall Decal -- during the installation choose "Custom" and be sure that ".NET Framework 2.0 Support" is selected.

digero, thanks for the reply. I reinstalled earlier and it still was not working. I was able to get it to work however, after I removed the key at HKLM\software\wow6432node\decal\plugins\{46bbf551...} and reinstalled Go Arrow. For some reason the installer was unable to remove that key, likely due to the permissions on that part of the registry being improper. Who knows how that happened...
