Even though I am not a fan of the X Men movies, I would give them some credit if they were actually trying to establish a prequel to the universe they spent a decade creating in X 1-3 and the Wolverine movie. But if they're just going to set it in modern day, then it's really not a prequel, but another reboot skewing to the teen audience. Hopefully that's not the case.

I really enjoyed the Xmen movies but that's probably because I quit reading the comic back in the late 70s.
Unless they look especially kick ass I'll probably wait for them on disc.

Yeah, I kind of liked 3 too. All the stuff with magneto was pretty cool. Lot of great effects. I enjoyed the jean grey/phoenix backstory stuff too.
Like almost all of the new superhero movies they flood them with too many characters and the whole thing usually feels diluted but this one was supposed to be a war between mutants so it kind of worked this time.
I think overall I liked it better than the last Wolverine movie though I did enjoy the backstory stuff from it but that last fight scene didn't do anything for me.

3 was possibly one of the biggest disappointments of my entire life. Everyone who had anything to do with writing, and directing that movie should be killed. Painfully.

Also Wolverine pretty much sucked.

You guys should read the abridged version of the script, which takes a very tongue-in-cheek satire approach to how the movie was done. Plus it's more entertaining than the movie itself was.

http://www.the-editing-room.com/xmen3.html

Here's a sample:

EXT. ALCATRAZ

There is a long battle. IAN MCKELLEN throws cars at
people and AARON lights them on fire.

AARON STANFORD

Couldn’t you just use the metal in the cars as
bullets like you did in the last movie? What’s the point of me lighting
them on fire?

IAN MCKELLEN

Well, what’s the point in bothering with any of this
when Famke can just destroy everyone with her mind?

AARON STANFORD

Um.. To needlessly pad the scene with superfluous
action in order to compensate for the lackluster script?

IAN MCKELLEN

Attaboy.

That's awesome. The flaming cars thing always struck me as the supreme example of the silliness and stupidity of the film. Not only boiling the war down to that one relatively small battle. But also, IIRC Magneto says something really ominous before they throw the flaming cars. Like that is their big ace in the hole. "You guys are so f***ed. UNLEASH THE FLAMING CARS!!"

here's what i want to know. how do you fk up a movie that kind of revolves around dark phoenix? how is that possible? how terrible at life do you have to be to jack up one of the most badass and just innately awesome super villians of all time. even kanye can't dispute how amazing dark phoenix is.

Gotta agree Xmen 3 was horrible, especially the crap like the flaming cars, and don't even mention Juggernaut unless you want me to punch you. But then again, didn't the guy who directed Rush Hour direct it?

Anyways, the retarded action may have been his fault, but the movie just wasn't going to work anyways. The Marvel universe is massive. Much of the Phoenix saga(s) take place in different galaxies, including the one she destroyed. I'd say doing the Phoenix storyline alone would take a minimum 3-4 movies, plus you'd have to introduce the Shi'ar and the Kree and the Hellfire Club and all sorts of crap for any of it to makes sense.

I liked X-2, but it was mostly adapted from a single graphic novel, with a little bit of Wolvie origin spliced in. Jumping straight from that to Jean Grey galaxy hopping and exploding stars would just confuse everyone tongue

Being the mutant buff, I am definitely looking forward for this. The correlation with the comic books of X-Men excites me the most.

I need to share something with everyone that has put me in a bad mood today, and the comments might shed some light on why they keep pumping out disappointing comic movies.

hint: its because ignorant people enjoy them plain

From rmbaldwin's link: "I mean when you really think about it, the first X-Men was definitely awesome. The second? It was beyond bad. The third? It held it’s own and was kind of cool."

X3 was better that X2? I have to agree with the comments on that article. The writer is nuts.

A few of the comments agreed with him at first, but thankfully a far less ignorant crowd showed up to call him an idiot.

I commented 3 times, trying to get the point across that Hollywood needs to stop taking a steaming dump on my childhood. I'm 31 now, and I've been waiting 20 years for movies capable of bringing my favorite characters to the big screen. Now that the technology is here, they've for the most part raped them with movies like X-3. angry

I was never really much of a fan of the X-men comic books, but I enjoyed the movies. I haven't seen that Wolverine one yet.

If you like X-3 than yeah I agree you're not an X-men fan. In which case you might enjoy Wolverine, as 90% of that movie was spent destroying every Marvel character they included.

Wolverine was an abomination, they slaughtered so many story lines. Seriously, it is just, awful. My issue is with Emma Frost, my fav character in the marvel universe, and bleh. Shame on Marvel for giving the Rights to stupid people.
