Subject: Update: Go Arrow / Dereth Explorer CoD Database for January 2010
Includes latest known additions from the January 2010 Patch.

Get it here or Here.

Updating instructions

Go Arrow:

1) Open Go Arrow and go to Atlas > Update

2) Change the URL to wherever you saved the new data_cod.xml file. (In my case C:\data_cod.xml)

3) Make sure Database Type is set to Crossroads of Dereth.

Also For the Facility Hub Routes to work Correctly:

You will need to update the Go Arrow Settings.xml File Manually.

It is located in your GoArrow folder (In my case: C:\Program Files\Decal Plugins\GoArrow)

1) Open Settings.xml in Wordpad or any other text editor.

2) Somewhere Below <startLocations> Add the Line: <startLocation name="Facility Hub Recall" type="Regular" icon="06001532" runDistance="0.4" coords="100.7S, 8.6E" enabled="True" savesPer="All" />

3) Save File.

Dereth Explorer:

1) Back Up your existing data_cod.xml file located at C:\program files\Dereth Explorer\Data\data_cod.xml by default

2) Copy the new Data_cod.xml file to C:\program files\Dereth Explorer\Data\

I would like the Asheron's Call Community to verify these locations in your travels. If you happen to notice any errors, Wrong locations / Coordinates, mis-spellings, errors with the quest(s) attached to any location or NPC, ect. ect. Feel free to drop me a message either here or in-game if I happen to be around.

Cool - thanks.

What's the best way to add the Portals in Whispering Blade Chapterhouse?

- Edit #1 - Hrm - downloaded the update, changed path to new file, hit update - no probs.

Edited settings.xml as you said - saved.

Run AC, and, the Facility is not listed, except for the few I added.

Any ideas/suggestions?

- Edit #2 - I had started to add the portals manually in GoArrow plugin adding to start locations. They're still there when I log in and out and all, but not seeing in settings.xml - do they get saved somewhere else!? And still not seeing your required line to get Fac Hub working. Appreciate any help.

E

Well it would have to be added to the settings file like the Facility orb, I can find out the information on it if you would like? (The portals themselves are in the database, but I don't think GoArrow has a way of knowing if you have the recall Orb or not.)

Edit - <startLocation name="Whipering Blade Chapterhouse Recall" type="Regular" icon="06001532" runDistance="0.4" coords="59.9S, 87.2W" enabled="True" savesPer="All" />

As far as I know the settings are only saved in settings.xml. Digero of Leafcull who is usually around on the boards is the creator of GoArrow and could probably answer that better than I. (I do not know where manual entries are saved to as I have never tried to add something that way, Though I presume they eihter have their own file, or write themselves an entry in the database.)

I also PMed you with any further instructions I thought might be helpful.

Thanks for keeping the locations database up to date happy
If you host the file unzipped (just an XML file), then people can update the GoArrow database by just entering the url in GoArrow's settings, without having to download the file outside of the game. You'll also want to use a URL that doesn't change from month to month... e.g. http://darktorizo.henrygreer.com/downloads/data_cod.xml Granted, that'll use up more bandwidth on the host, so you'll need to check to be sure that's ok. If not, I can host the file on my site.

If you added the start locations on the Settings > Route Finding > Start Locations tab, then they're saved in settings.xml in the GoArrow folder, under the <startLocations> node. If you added the locations from the Atlas > Details > Modify/Add Location tab, then they're stored in locations.xml in the GoArrow folder, and won't be used as automatic start locations. It sounds like you did the former, which is the right way to add start locations.

Based on what you said, it sounds like you added each of the portals in the hub as start locations. Instead, I'd recommend deleting those start locations and using just one that points to the location of the hub (this is what GoArrow does for Abandoned Mines, for instance). It sounds like Darktorizo's suggested start location does that. He posted XML, but if editing XML isn't your cup of tea, you can also add the start location from within GoArrow on the Settings > Route Finding > Start Locations tab. Just make sure to use the same coordinates he posted (59.9S, 87.2W).

Thanks to both of you.

I have uninstalled, and currently in process of reinstalling and following directions as posted.

It just seemed like the in game plugin was getting the settings.xml from somewhere else. I had done a search to make sure it wasn't elsewhere on my computer as I've run into issues here and there a few weeks ago regarding permissions/admin, etc, due to Windows 7, Dual Client, etc.

I will let you know. happy One thing I noticed was the Program Files/Decal Plugins/GoArrow was missing some files.

Once I update the database per this post, do I need to hang onto that file?

EDIT: That did the trick. happy Not sure if I installed for "EVERYONE" or "JUST ME" last time. This time installed "JUST ME", and initially, Settings.xml wasn't there when I installed. Exited AC, it appeare, edited adding those start locations and whalla - working like a champ.

HOWEVER, Whispering Blade isn't being used as a start location when picking a town like Qal...? How do I fix that? Whispering Blade Chapter House has portals to Ayan, Qal, Heb-To, Silyun and Cragstone. Whenever I pick any of these, GoArrow doesn't use Chapter House - even tho I have it selected as a start location.

I hope it turns out well for you.

The data_cod.xml is only to update everything, it is not a necessity to keep it though.

Yup - working great. If you would, please see my edit above concerning Whispering Blade. I have no problems editing XML. Can do it with Text/Wordpad or XML Notepad. I would love to have the Chapterhouse Portals linked to Chapterhouse - just need to know where/how to put it.. heh

The Fac Hub portals seem to be working great! Recommend next time someone updates the database, to throw in there they are level restricted ie "Banderling Camp (10+)" or something like that. happy

Again, appreciate your efforts. Love your programs. Please keep it up!! grin

Also, should I have updated from CoD after reinstalling, prior to using the file linked here - or does the file linked here have it all?

The chapterhouse is added in settings.xml just the same as Facility Hub was.

Add this:

<startLocation name="Whipering Blade Chapterhouse Recall" type="Regular" icon="06001532" runDistance="0.4" coords="59.9S, 87.2W" enabled="True" savesPer="All" />

Should be good to go after that.

After re-reading a section of this post it has occured to me that I in fact read it wrong. (Don't read/post when tired lol)

Since I do not have the recall orb I had not added it to my GoArrow. After Adding it I found that it was not always
the first" location to pop up. By clicking on next longer a few times I did indeed find it to work.

Example:

Atlas>Route From "Here" To Qalaba'r (Here is my house in Northfire Estates in this case)

First starting location: Abandoned Mines (2.16km)
Next: Glendon Wood (2.37km)
Next: Facility Hub (3.40km)
Next: Secondary Portal Tie (3.91km)
Next: Whispering Blade Chapterhouse (4.33km)
Next: Lifestone Bind (5.57km)

So GoArrow tries to find the absolute closest "distance" to the target, and all the Recalls come first in settings, so it goes through them first which is why Whispering Blade is not the "first" location picked.

I just looked at Darktorizo's data_cod.xml, and it looks like the "Whispering Blade Chapterhouse to ________" portals don't have exit coordinates listed (arrival_latitude and arrival_longitude are 0), which means that GoArrow can't use them for route-finding. The database needs to be updated with exit coords for you to be able to use them in route finding. If you want, you can manually add the exit coordinates by modifying the portals on the Atlas > Details > Modify/Add Location tab, but it'd probably be best to have Darktorizo update his data_cod.xml with the coordinates, so everyone can take advantage of it.

I'm not sure what you mean here? GoArrow finds the shortest route based on the combined straight-line distance between portals along the route (in other words, the distance you have to run). The order of the start locations in the settings list has nothing to do with which one it picks.

Learned something new about the program. =)

Not the order per se, but can you just add a new start location anywhere below <startLocations> in the settings file? Or does it matter?

I will update the end locations on the chapterhouse portals, as apparently they got overlooked =/. But on mine even with the end locations not added it will still route via the chapterhouse properly.

Thanl you for making me aware of them being 0.0 though. =)

You can add start locations as any child node of the <startLocations> node. The order doesn't matter -- the plugin sorts them by name when it loads them.

The route that it found from the chapterhouse recall before you fixed the portals most likely involved recalling to the chapterhouse, then running to a nearby portal that's not in the chapterhouse, and going from there. That's *a* route, but not the shortest one.

The "Next Longer" button cycles through the start locations in order of the length of the shortest route between that start location and the destination. It'll eventually use up all the start locations unless there is no possible route under ~50km run-distance between a given start location and your destination -- the most likely reason for which is if the destination is on an island, since you can't run through the ocean.
