Hey!

Summer's here and the opportunities to photograph are everywhere. At the same time this is usually a very busy time, especially for people who don't have all their time for themselves, like some of us do.

This brings both challenges and opportunities to keep the hobby "alive", for me, just getting out there and taking pics has been a challenge in itself this past month. So I joined the "Junfest" on a norwegian photo-forum I frequent, something that forces me to go out there and take pictures, plain and simple. I'll explain how it works:

Basically every second month they arrange a -fest, where you put up your own challenge, and decide on a participation level. (1 of 4)
The diffrent participation levels are:

Hardcore:
Shoot pictures related to your theme only, for the whole duration of the fest. Deliver 1 picture each day. You get 2 freecards, which you can use either to not deliver, or to take pictures of something not related to your challenge.

Enthusiast:
Same as hardcore, but you get 4 freecards, and you can take pictures not related to your challange if you wish (but still deliver pictures related to the challenge each day)

Aspiring:
You take pictures mainly related to your challange, and deliver max 1 picture a day, minimum 4 per week. you can take other pictures as you see fit.

Newb:
you deliver 2-3 pictures per week, you shoot other stuff if you wish.

For june, my challange was "learn to use my new 50mm f/1.2 AI-S"
You can see my thread here: http://www.diskusjon.no/index.php?showtopic=1114912 (the text is in norwegian, but you can still see the pics tongue )
I am Aspiring, so I deliver a minimum of 4 pics per week (though, so far it's been just about every day)

At the end of it all, we create a new thread where we each post what our challange was, some comments on how we think it went, and our 3 best pictures from the challenge.

In addition, for the junefest we're ordering a photobook from http://www.blurb.com/ with the 3 best pics from each of the participants, plus one page with text where we present our challange, as a small memory from the fest.

So, if we can get some interest for this, I'm all for a Julyfest here on these forums. Anyone else think this might be fun?

Sounds interesting! I'd love to see something that encourages more participation from all of us (myself included, I've been lax lately).

I've also been thinking about putting up a web album for all of us to use, we'd each have our own album and there would be rating and comment options. Maybe this could be incorporated in to your idea, where each month we start a new "family album"? The album would only be for photos you want to share here and only members could crit and rate?

Shure thing, I don't wanna do it every month though. Ever second or third would probably be appropriate. happy

the world around me

Those are just a few examples from this months Junefest on the other forum.
