How do you get your work out there on flickr? I see people's photostreams and all the pictures have tons of comments. I realize part of this is just based on quality and my photos just not being there yet, but I get the impression that a lot of it is just exposure. How do you get exposure for your photos? I'd really like to open my stuff up to a larger range of criticism...

Join groups. Post photos to those groups. There are several groups that require people to comment on a certain number of photos for every photo they post to the group.

The most comments I have on any photo is 53.

Any suggestions on groups you've found to be active?

TBH Flicr is useless for any purpose other then hosting your pics. and imo does a poor job at that as well.

To get a decent hosting solution you're better off either using www.pbase.com, or buying your own domain and setting up a gallery of sorts there (I like http://www.pixelpost.org/ )

As for getting comments on your work, I find that becoming part of a community is a better way, then just randomly posting images on flicr groups, begging people to come see your images so they in turn can comment on your images so that they can leave a link to their pics etc etc etc..

If you're serious about wanting to take your work to a new level, I can reccomend photo.net. This is the only community site related to photography I know of in English. But the overall skill of the people that frequent there is, in my expirience, high. So don't expect to hear Ooohs, and Aahs right off the bat.

Now, please don't take this the wrong way, I'm not saying "lol u sucx". I think you have two of the most important thing a photographer needs, a good eye and the will to actually go out and take pictures.
However, I also think you're placing too much emphasis on your post-processing and perhaps not enough on taking a "perfect" exposure when you're at the location. I understand that you like the HDR effect, and in some pics so do I, That doesn't mean it's an effect thats appropriate for every image though.
I also think you need to take those extra 10 seconds and consider your composition every now and then, especially since you like to take pics of architecture, where lines are the defining trait of the images most of the time.

I hope you don't take this a just trashtalk, because it's not meant that way. happy

Flickr is what you make out of it..

Can you just join coment groups? Sure.

But you can also join more meaning full groups, either a group designed by an area (I joined mine and made some friends and the group even does monthly photo meets and then going on a photo hike to diff areas)
Or a group designed to focus on a subject. I joined one just for squirrels for example.

Those groups can come a commuity and give very good advise along with some praise on good photos.
I have quite a few friends there now, and you can browse your friends photos and coment on them also.

Some people just see the coment groups and assume that's all flickr is good for, I disagree and say it's what YOU want to make of it..
