Equipment insurance?

I'm traveling abroad for a month this summer. I want to bring my camera and laptop, but I'm concerned about their safety (primarily theft). Any way to insure them for the trip? I've heard you can add them to homeowner's insurance, but I'd prefer something more straightforward. Any ideas? (Neither is used in any sort of business/for-profit sense.)

If I were to get any insurance on my photoequipment, and I'm thinking about it, I'd get a "idiot" insurance, that covers everything. Sure it's more expencive, but that way you're covered either way.
In Norway, its quite common to take out insurance only for the duration of a trip as well actually. It costs a bit, but you're covered for the duration of the trip and its not as expencive as having your stuff insured all the time.

If you have internet over there you could use flickr pro.. $24 a year and will store all your pics full size. Can make them private also so only you can see them. Then you can redownload them from there.
Or you can get an external HD 750gig for under $100..

Definitely talk to your insurance agent. It might be cheaper in the long run to add them as a floater on your homeowners/renters insurance like people do with their jewelry.

I'm living at home for two months while I transition schools so no renter's insurance. Don;t trust my mom enough to put it on homeowner's insurance. STA Travel appears to offer a full on trip insurance plan along with an equipment upgrade that covers laptops and cameras. Going to give them a call today and see what the deal is.
Definitely need to add the camera and laptop as floaters on the renter's insurance once I have it though though. Are floaters covered in case of accident? Trying to decide if I should skip the Dell Complete Care Warranty since I don;t believe it covers theft..

I meant that if the floater insurance would cover my laptop in case of both accident and theft, then there would be no need for the Complete Care coverage...

I haven't worked in insurance in over 15 years, so I can't recall what they'd cover. Call an agent up and ask. You definitely don't want to pay for the same coverage twice.
