I heard this on the news and laughed, but if you think about it - is it just exploiting the name for advertisement and money, or is it a blatant act of racism? If so - bold move being that one is in Harlem.

However... the best part was on the news...

Hot Sauce... cornbread... big giant buckets of gravy.

"Obama Chicken Fingers"

So... racist... or perfectly ok in our capitalist country?

I would go on a rant about what toys they would have in the 'nappy meal' but I'll keep this post civil.

It's actually been a very big discussion this morning here at work.

I say it's exploiting racism for advertisement - for example... using a race to play a stereotype would be considered racist imo. Such as:

Obama Fried Chicken
Obama watermellon's
Obama Orange Soda
Obama chitlins.

However if you changed it to non stereotype things it wouldn't have the same effect.

Obama toothpicks
Obama Orange Juice
Obama Beer

see my point?

I will say racist... only because it is pushing stereotype products, but if it was pushing anything else... just exploiting the name for some advertisement etc. Either way - it's perfectly allowed.

Advertising Obama Fried Chicken would be racist in the same way that advertising Pelosi Maxi-Pads would be sexist.

Black people love chicken. I am speaking from my own experience in the food industry. I worked at a National Theater for the Performing Arts, and we had a wide range of genres in the 7,000 person venue. The last couple years I worked (in concessions) we introduced chicken fingers to our menu and they sold pretty well. On a normal night we would sell about 40 or so orders of it (9 pieces per order). When bands that drew predominately black patrons performed, these numbers would skyrocket. Sometimes we would sell out altogether, which is a pretty impressive feat considering our stockpile.

I don't see pointing this out as racism or wrong. It's demographics. Now, if someone said something like, "You must like chicken cause you're black!" that would probably be a bit racist.

I don't typo often, but when I do, I blame Swype.
