you get home from work late ... everything is already put up or the significant other didn't make anything, and you just don't feel like going to get fast food.

it is late ... you are tired and hungry ... what is the meal or snack that you can make that never fails to "hit the spot" and make everything ok?

It's one of the few things I like from a box and it only takes about 10 minutes to make in the microwave. I keep it on hand for times like you just described.

That's a lot of work if I'm tired and late getting home.

The stuff I make, I just boil water in the microwave, throw in the few ingredients, cook for another 4 minutes, and it's done. One bowl to clean up, too.

I will usually grab a handful of dry roasted peanuts or smoked almonds and some kind of raw veggies (carrots, celery, peapods, raw stringbeans etc.) and call it good.

I don't like to eat heavily late at night.

We do something similar when we don't want something from a can/box yet don't feel like going out--breakfast for supper. My favorite is a layer of hash browns with a layer of grits on top followed by a couple of fried eggs and a few piece of crisp, microwaved bacon. Spear that egg and let all the yolk run through it all. I've got it down to an art and can knock it out in 30min with little effort/mess.

I don't know who started the mayhaw jelly thread a while back, but I'm now a big fan of the stuff. I've even order 3 trees so I can make my own (in a few years). Gimme a biscuit or piece of buttered toast with the mayhaw on top and that's a fantastic way to end the meal.

-----------

Now if I'm really, really, really tired I make chili cheese hot dogs with onion on top. It's one of those things you can pretty much nuke and have within 5min.

i like those skillet meals they sell in the frozen aisle. i look for whatever brand is on sale but bertolli is the best, but also the most expensive...its like $8 for a bag for that one. i stock a few for when i come home after a bad day tho. that and a heineken mini keg hits the spot.

I either have some tostitos with onion dip, or just skip a meal altogether. Usually we have enough leftovers in the fridge at all times that I can cobble something together.

No fail: leftover rice, warm it up stovetop (has to be stovetop!) with milk and some cheddar cheese. I call it slop of the day. happy

We always have left overs here because we always make enough to have extra for lunch. When I need something on the go though I go for string cheese sometimes wrapped in a tortilla, an apple with peanut butter, cottage cheese on a salad (makes a great substitute for dressing), or nuts and craisins.

Take one lb of hot bulk sausage
1 Jar of Cheeze whiz
1 small pkg of bisquick

Mix it all together with your fingers, roll into little balls and bake in a 425 oven until golden brown.

Haven't found anybody who doesn't like snaking on this stuff.
