Subject: Gah, teacher's French is terrible...
Sending my daughter to a French first language preschool since October. We just got her first little report card, and she's doing well, was great until I got to the part where the teacher writes in her own comments.

So many mistakes, horrible spelling, grammar, all of it is terrible writing. I know I'm really picky about language, but a high school student should write better than this! I don't know whether I should bring it to the attention of the administration or not. Only a few months left, after all, and the teacher really IS great with my daughter...

Gah. Frustrating! angry

We have college students that actually write emails to their Profs using "ur, cuz, ima" plain

Edit: I don't even want to go into the actual attempts to correctly spell "real" words.

I'd report her, honestly - if she's so terrible how is she going to teach your daughter the correct grammar, etc?

Well it's never going to get to the point of grammar and all that. She speaks it all right, to the level that she interacts with the kids, and talking to me is all right.

It's just till she hits 4 years old and goes to the real school. Still disappointing though.

I'm going to send my child to a French school as well. If the teacher cant speak or write in French very well then it defies the purpose of sending your child to a French school to begin with. I would report her. I'm sure she's a great teacher, nothing stopping her from teaching in a regular school.

I would send the paper, corrected, to the principle. That's pretty darn bad.

Matthias will be attending Danish schools, but I'll only be speaking English to him. I've already spoken to the rector at the school he'll be attending to ascertain how well English is actually taught/spoken/written.

I've seen some English teachers here that yeah, they're bad - and I don't want Matthias getting taught that 'you don't got no' or 'ain't' are proper grammar.

No teaching credentials, for one... None of these teachers have a formal education, this is just preschool, age 0-4. Well, depends on when they hit 4, they can start school at 4. happy They don't even really teach them more than rudimentary letter recognition, let alone writing. Her spoken french is fine, not perfect, but good enough for what she's there for.
