I'm going to be there in mid-April for business and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good spot to eat.

Where's the midget when you need her?

There's some Monastery place she always talks about that sounds great.

I thought it was the Mansion at Turtle Creek?

Could be wrong, that's just what I remember her and JPR talking about.

Not high end stuff (expensive). I like seafood, steaks, ribs, chicken, etc.

I can't remember right off the top of my head where we're staying but I'll check.

Pappadeaux is pretty good seafood. They have some locations in other states but most are in Texas.

Go to Chuy's for awesome tex-mex.

Ruth's Chris is awesome steak, I hear, but kinda pricey. Not sure exactly, never been there.

Pappadeaux is good seafood but overpriced; Chuy's is not good in Dallas but great in Austin, Ruths' Chris is the worst steakhouse in Dallas since Ruth died.

Mansion on Turtle Creek has lost its chef so I can't recommend it anymore.

Recommendations:

Drinks and Bar Food - 560 at Reunion Tower - Wolfgang Pucks newest restaurant - don't go for food go for the views
Best Tacos in Texas - Fuel City at Industrial/I-35 - Cash only
Mexican Food - Matt's Rancho Martinez or Ojeda's
Chinese Food - Kirin Court or Maxim's for Dim Sum on Sat/Sun Morning; First Chinese BBQ or Caravelle - Any other time
Downhome Cooking - Mecca (Harry Hines/Walnut Hill); Celebration REstaurant (Lovers Lane/Inwood); Hatties (North Oak Cliff); All Good Cafe - Deep Ellum
High End Dining - Abacus, Local, The Mercury
Steak - Del Friscos, Pappas
Burgers - Angry Dog, Barley House, Twisted Root Burger Company (to be featured on Guy Fiere's show on Food Network)
Seafood - Oceanaire (Galleria Mall, chain but the best seafood in Dallas)

Let me know if you need any other recommendations

I'll agree that Chuy's is MUCH better in Austin than in Dallas, but the Dallas location is decent enough happy

I didn't know that the Mansion had lost its chef...I was there a few years ago with my sister and everything was heavenly. First time I ever had freshwater trout that was actually tasty.

I am sure the MAnsion is still good and I had one of the best meals of my life there on October 15 but it's lost John Tesar and now they shut down the Chef's Tasting Room.

Another new restaurant to try is Kent Rathbun's Blue Plate Kitchen - http://www.kentrathbun.com/blueplate/dallas/

I can vouch for Del Frisco's. That's always an awesome meal. My husband and I go there every time we visit Dallas.

casita, used to be casita domiguez, sister restaurant of casa dominguez. been around since the early 60s. east off greenville on blackwell behind the half price book store and in the same parking lot as the black forest bakery.

was sold after the owner, from what i heard mind you, all hearsay, the owner got too many dwi;s.

bc he owned a liquor license, it was taken away. so he tried to give alcohol away, which made the business lose money.

a family friend bought the place. restored it while keeping the food and all the same. i knwo i was waiting to see if the quality went away.

beware tho, this is/was but kinda still is a family place. old style. not big. not fancy. same waiters are there til they die off thats how good the place is. they remember you. they always know what i want to drink, tho at times i change up. they always know what i start out w/ and one lady is so good she even remembers to bring out a bowl of pico and my soft corn tortillas.

you wont find the crowd yuppie or otherwise there. the bar is almost not there. ppl dont go there like they do sayyyyy uncle julios for the bar. young and old do go there tho, all kinds of ppl from the cops to the suits to the guy off the street to the old folks.

was there today as a matter of fact :P

oh, no fancy smancy salsa either. old style, crisp chips, thin. not hard like...like...like on the borders.
guacamole so good. nachos made plain, normal, not fancy or covered in 15 different ingredients.

look me up sometime and i will be more than happy to take you. you may not like it, but you can give it a try.

Ruth Crist is a chain, it's very pricey, close to 100 bucks for dinner.

Saltgrass is a good 30 dollar steak dinner. If you see one in Dallas, try it out.
