Subject: AC Gameplay Issues
Hey,

So here is my problem I don't know what is going on please help. After sometimes an hour up to I think three hours max it has allowed me AC will fail and this comes up. A small Microsoft window comes up and reads this, AcClient has stopped working. A problem casued the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. Then gives me to options Debug or Close. I choose Debug every time it never works and boots me from game play. I just started playing again, and I just downloaded within the past week the new decal and plug ins and AC. Decal is updated, I run it as administrator since I am using Vista32. The only plug ins I am using are Virindi Tank and Virindi Reporter. Can someone please help me with this problem.

Thanks ahead of time.

post a decal export. outside of decal open decal, click export, cut&paste info into a reply.

probably essential is at least a clue as to which OS, xp or vista, or vista64 you are running. some real hoop jumping to get decal to work nicely with vista and vista64

Yes...the main question I would have at this point is how much video/system memory do you have. An export would answer that.

ONE thing you didn't mention was what was going on when this event happens.

are you like logging out one toon and going to log in another toon? IF SO IT IS A KNOWN condtion of decal and a couple of plugins.

either find the offending plugin (load only one at a time, see if it causes the poblem to occur, then load aother ect till it occurs. last loaded could be a prime canidate in making the event happen) and stop using that plugin.

or, learn to live with the crashses.

Logging out with Virindi Reporter is broken right now and I haven't bothered to update it. That isn't causing problems while you are ingame, though.

If it happens when opening a vendor, that is a Decal bug...

If it happens when hunting, are you running out of memory?

It is happening only while I am hunting.

I don't think I am running out of memory but I don't know how to check either.

This will be insightful or useless, its sorta hit or miss when I look at stuff. Just ask VI. happy

[MemoryEnglish] : 1523 MB
That number strikes me as odd. 1.5 gig should be 1536 shouldn't it?

AC running under program files on C: - i thought this was one of the huge problems with AC running under Vista.

This might be a stab in the dark, but have you considered switching the affinity of the cores for AC? Maybe limiting it to 2 instead of all 4.
(one of the grownups will be along to say if this is a bad idea or not shortly I am sure. I thought that some Phenoms at some point were having issues with memory, so its possible that could be part of the issue. like i said I get ideas, some good some bad)

wubbie - ideas inc...

>> This might be a stab in the dark, but have you considered switching the affinity of the cores for AC?

Doubt that would be an issue, as AC is single-threaded.

>> This might be a stab in the dark, but have you considered switching the affinity of the cores for AC?

Doubt that would be an issue, as AC is single-threaded.

See I told you VI would be along to set me right.
Sometimes my random ideas... not so good...

Check your Event Viewer. Dunno if they moved it in Vista, but in XP it is in:
Control Panel -> Administrative Settings -> Event Viewer -> Application

Are there a bunch of .NET Runtime errors littered throughout the log?

If so, this appears to affect everyone I know who runs Decal, especially with some sort of combination of LTx and other plugins. At times I can get lucky and remain stable for over 12 hrs, but that's only if I have 1 client running. 2 clients and everything crashes much faster, usually within a few mins to a few hours. There's many posts of this issue and that it may involve a memory leak. That would make sense then, that 2 clients crash faster, as the memory is leaking twice as fast.

interesting, I do have a lot of .net 2.0 errors. I also have lots of ac client application errors. It seems to me, that if I'm leaking memory, I'm leaking faster than I should be. I could run the same amount on a 128mb video card as i do on my new 512 video card. is there something i can do like update my .net framework, like a driver?

Check windows updates to make sure .net is patched all the way up to date.

What exactly are the contents of the error reports for .net and ac client? Are they always the same? (you can click into the reports and use copy & paste on them)
Just saying you have an error means there is a problem, knowing the contents of the report can help figure out whats going on. Much like BSOD, getting one means something went wrong, but unless you write down the information theres no way to know what the source problem is. When you hit the Debug option, does it save an extra file somewhere? The debug button doesn't mean windows debugs the code, it just generates information about what lead to the error...

To try to combat the leaks you could shut down some of the HUDs you don't absolutely need to have open and drawing.
If your fighting in a static location (IE your super secret spot in EO where you don't move from) you could lower the draw distance down alot, maybe lower some of the detail.

Not permanent fixes, but some ideas to try and extend the amount of time before the leak gets so huge it crashes you.

Here are errors that I got today. They are usally the same errors every time.

Faulting application acclient.exe, version 0.0.11.2169, stamp 498b7706, faulting module acclient.exe, version 0.0.11.2169, stamp 498b7706, debug? 0, fault address 0x00149634.

Faulting application acclient.exe, version 0.0.11.2169, stamp 498b7706, faulting module decalnet.dll, version 2.9.6.0, stamp 45744771, debug? 0, fault address 0x00033910.

Faulting application acclient.exe, version 0.0.11.2169, faulting module decalnet.dll, version 2.9.6.0, fault address 0x00033910.

Fault bucket 1138573974.

The first two are .net errors, and the second two are application errors. Also

The instruction at 0xc90100b referenced memory at "0x00000014". The memory could not be "read".

hurm decalnet.dll.... i gots nuffin.
I'm mildly gifted at pondering things, but this looks like its the client having issues with a portion of decal and thats way outta my field.

I'm sure VI or the others will wander thru shortly now that the patch surge is over...

Did you check to make sure your .net is all up to date and happy?

if it was failing at the same addresses I would suggest making a MemTest x86 bootdisk and letting it run to make sure your ram is happy, but those locations are different.

I run an AMD Phenom 9500 with 4gb of ram and a ATI Radeon HD 3400 256mb video and I go 5-7 days of botting and hunting w/o a problem (not switching toons). Below is my export. Maybe there is something in there that can help you fix your decal.

You have to nail down which error is causing the actual crash, because like a house of cards, once the crash occurs, it will cause multiple other errors to occur, and those errors will clutter up the Event Viewer. In other words, only one error in there probably matters, the rest are subsequent errors and can be ignored.

I don't think you have bad memory, or a failing hard drive, graphics card, etc., because many people get those exact same 'types' of errors whenever acclient locks up. The different memory locations the error points to can be caused by the many different memory configurations and graphic adapters we all are using, and I think the actual location is moot.

I recently rebuilt many core parts of my system, including 2x 2GB paired memory, brand new HD and Power Supply. Kept were CPU, SLI graphics card and all ROM drives. I installed a brand new XP SP3 MSN final release on the new HD. First thing I loaded up were AC, Dual Client and Decal (with all my used plugins), so therefore there was absolutely no other bloat on the system, and it still crashed rather regularly. The one thing I can say, which again points to some sort of memory leaking issue is, when going from 2GB total memory to 4GB paired memory, it takes longer to crash most of the time now.

IMO, this just simply has to be some little routine embedded in either Decal or a plugin that is very slowly spinning out of control. So slow, it's nearly impossible to detect and therefore devs haven't even seen it, much less been able to fix it. This routine may only spiral out of control only when paired up with a system with a certain configuration (of which there seems to be a LOT of!). I just simply have learned to live with it... you crash, you login, go pick up your corpse and start over. I don't think anyone is going very deep into the core of Decal to do anything, so I don't expect this to ever go away.

Okies we are moving out of the realm of where I feel comfortable making suggestions, this is something that is most likely outside my abilities to solve.

I fall back to some standard ideas.

- verify the .net installation
- trying to read the exports hurts me, but it looks like the 2 of you using ATI cards are running diff drivers.
Try rolling back drivers, I know I had TERRIBLE problems with newer Nvidia drivers and had to rollback way in time to find something stable for my system. I currently run Forceware 175.19 I think I am way back in time on those.

Its also entertaining that the card reporting the least memory, is the one listed as stable.

With luck now that patch has come, someone with fresh eyes might be able to come take a look at this and add more ideas.

K, I'll look into downgrading my driver. Also, I noticed after an hour and a half of hunting with Life Tank, my memory usage of AC Client has jumped from 150,000k to 347,000k. My Decal memory usage has stayed the same.

Also- I Crashed again, got the same, AC Client has encountered an error etc message, but then nothing was recorded in my events viewer.

howevery if running in windowed mode, if screen resolution > desktop you might have some problems. EG displaying a 900x1600 screen say on a 600x800 desktop.

K, so i downloaded a garbage collector to try to stop memory leakage. only problem is the file is .dsp, .dsw, and .positions. I don't know what program to use to open these. Anyone know where I can get free software to run these files?

Ummm.. I have no idea what you downloaded, and I'm not even sure its for windows.

Depending on which camp you believe, programs that "freeup" ram are either crapware or awesome.
as always YMMV.

Your running XP, have you considered trying eBooster? I believe they offer a time limited trial.
again some people say snake oil some people think its nifty.
the program is supposed to be "ReadyBoost" for XP. (for those who dunno, ReadyBoost is a feature of Vista where a high speed flash drive can be plugged in to add more overall memory to the system.)
It never hurts to try, while it can't solve the memory leak itself, it can buy you a bit more time.

Yea, it runs on microsoft visual studio, but that software is super pricey and i'm not buying it. So I'm back to square one. I think I'm going to try to reinstall AC because when I have task manager open, AC Client is the program eating up all of the memory, maybe there's something corrupted.

Come to think of it...
I never bought an official copy of ToD, I just kept using the one I downloaded for a trial version. Could this be related??

Visual Studio... were you 1 handedly going to rewrite decal and AC? happy thats a programming tool.

I'm playing on a download version of AC and I don't crash very often.
But then I don't run either Tank and I triple log.

More random ideas,
- defrag the drive with AC on it. its a good thing to do.
- check the size of your swap file. I think , and I am sure someone will correct me, that a set size swap file of 1.5 * system ram is about the best to use. (do it after you defrag)

Keep trying new thing and settings. Sometimes you have to jiggle the handle.
