So here's the story:

I nursed Matthias until 5.5 months or so, when he decided he liked getting his milk faster than boob speed. I missed the closeness of nursing and all, but still got quality snuggles in when giving him a bottle.

Now at 8 months, he's become interested in the boob again (and yes, I can still express milk).

Part of me wants to try to encourage him and begin relactation, but the other part of me says "HELL NO".

Matthias is a biter.

I don't mean a nibble once or twice, you'd think he was chewing on a side of beef the way his gums meet. He started biting at about the time we switched over to the bottle (another reason for the bottle), and no matter what I did, when I put him to breast he'd BITE. (On a side note: I stopped nursing Vanessa at 4 months (her first tooth came in) and she bit THROUGH my nipple.) I tried saying "NO" sternly when he bit, and putting him down and everything else under the sun, but nothing helped - in fact it made him more anxious to bite since he was afraid the boob was leaving again.

Yeah, I'm scared ishtless that he's going to do the same as Vanessa did if I try to nurse again.

i feel your pain, evan stopped nursing a month ago cause he liked the bottle better, now he seems like he wants to but we have tried and he bites down every time (hard, im scared hes going to bite it off)

so we are just pumping for now

good luck, i miss nursing, but its not worth the risk anymore

Sounds to me like he had his chance. happy He's gotten the big benefit from nursing already. I doubt that having that phase over at this point is at all bad for him.

My 2 (CDN) cents. happy

I can understand your dilemma, but at his age I think it would probably be best to just stick to the bottle. The snuggle time is still there, but you dont have to worry about pain/injury to your body. He's obviously a healthy boy, so I dont see that it should be a problem nutrient wise either.

Either way though, GL, I cringe everytime I think about it lol, and it's been 5 years since I had one on the boob!

I can understand wanting to go back to nursing but if he bites, I'd say no. he might even be more likely to bite now because he's gotten used to the bottle, the flow from your breast will be slower and you can bite a bottle nipple without any negative consequences. not worth the hassle IMO.

he's such a huge boy too, he probably eats a lot so it might be easier to fill him up with a bottle.

I'm a huge believer in breastfeeding but at eight months, maybe he doesn't need it so much anymore, he's gotten most of the benefits from it already.

He gets 3 solid meals a day (will refuse a bottle for a solid feed), and really only gets the bottle when he's down for a nap/night sleep and when he wakes up.

My MIL's friend was visiting today (at the MIL's house) and told me I should go back to breastfeeding, and if he started to bite to pinch his foot until he cries to get him to stop.

I was like... plain

Ouch!!!

I remember when I "tried" to breastfeed my son. My big ole bazoombas didn't produce breast milk, just that stuff that starts with a "c". My son got a piece off of my nip as a newborn because he wasn't getting enough nourishment. It HURTS!!! He went to formula really quick.

I'd say not worth the pain hon, and by the way....How are ya??? hugs
